“Medieval Dining”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2012

Went with the family for a very reasonable 3 course. Excellent champagne (Mandois?) followed by local specialities (Maultaschen, Fisch from Bodensee, Potato salads, regional wines-very worth trying). On the button service, friendly and well trained. Pretty much value for money!

“Good hunting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2011

Wandering around the historic centre of Ravensburg, we gravitated after some shopping to the Marienplatz where there are quite a few restaurants. We planned to dine early, about 18:30. The Romantik Hotel Waldhorn looked the most promising candidate. It has been trading since 1860 and in the hands of the present owners since 1975. We were greeted pleasantly.

The dining room is formal, with wood-panelled walls, lots of silver, linen tablecloths and a hunting theme decor. Curiously for August in this part of Germany, we had the dining room almost to ourselves from 18:30 to 20:15. However, we felt that this probably reflected on the prices rather than the food.

For the main course, priced at €29.00, we both had a half European lobster, stuffed with scallops and calf sweetbreads. The lobster meat was, alas, a little overdone but overall the course was pleasant and tasty, with a touch of originality. Desserts were pricey, at €16.00 apiece but we both agreed were among the very best we have had in years.

The wine list offered a good selection, with plenty of local wines from Baden-Wurttemberg. There was also an antique wooden trolley with a large selection of liqueurs, mainly local obstlers and tresters.

Ambience was pleasant ('though a few more fellow-diners would have helped) and the service was friendly and helpful. The menu was fairly restricted, but if our experience was representative, seemed to be of high quality. it could best be described as classic cuisine with a noticeable Asian influence.

Prices were high by the standards of the area, 'though not particularly so by large city standards.

Overall, we would be disposed to return soon.
