“Good Hotel Near Swiss-German Border”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

A good hotel to stay if you are trying to have a night halt near to Swiss-German border. The rooms are very spacious and excellent. The restaurant is good for breakfast. The WiFi is not worth experiencing. The hotel has many nearby shopping stores like Lidl, Aldi and also a cinema.

What a contrast. Stuck in an industrial estate, poor signage at street level, odd arrows in the car park, then a 4 star sign embedded in the floor by the front entrance lifts you to expect a 4 star hotel. well, they are trying. Check-in was reasonably smooth, lobby was OK but not luxurious. Three lifts are variable quality but use of carpets excellent.
Room was very spacious but let down by a number of things. Pillows, in the German fashion, I think, were almost non-existent, no support. Towels were small and thin and only two. My pet hate is shampoo and soap in dispensers. Surely not in a 4* but yes they are here. Worse still the one in the shower was empty and the one by the sink was marked shampoo but inaccessible from the shower. Two items were presented next to the basin but nothing in English, pretty sure they weren't soap or shampoo though. Internet access was by a printed ticket (how quaint) from Reception (not offered when we checked in though). Found to be out of date (yes, out of date) when I got to the room. This is unacceptable. Breakfast was good quality with plenty of choice although on the first day 3 coachloads of tourists strained the system. My colleagues had a small bar of Toblerone on their pillows, mine didn't. Check out was staffed by just one girl at a very popular time who was also answering the 'phone so took far too long. So lots of small things that mount up and eventually disappoint.

Room Tip: Ending in 02 and 12 (and others) have a room facing in two directions. Floor 10 is the penthouse.

I felt disappointed when I arrived at the hotel at 7 pm and I was told that my booking had not arrived yet, although I made the reservation the day before my arrival.
The girl at the reception was not very pleasant but said she would get me a room if I could provide a copy of my booking, which I did. The charges for extras were more expensive than the prices quoted in my booking. The reception area and the room seem to be in need of renovation. The room was quite small with no coffee facilities. The bar staff was helpful. The meal was disappointing. It was quite expensive considering the quality. I was expecting freshly prepared food but it was defrosted and reheated before arriving to the table.
The choice of breakfast was ample but the staff not attentive and it was difficult to draw their attention for a pot of coffee.
The solarium could not be found and the sauna was switched off.
I have found the whole experience disappointing.

Very friendly staff and cost-free wireless internet compensates the older facility. Rooms are ok, bar opened till late night and there's a really large selection for breakfast. Although the hotel is quite average, there are no many better ones in such small city like Weil am Rhein.

We spend the night at the hotel just before crossing the border to switzerland.
The hotel is located right on the exit high way.
We arrived late in the evening and still could find a room.
We got a huge room which was very spacious.
The room looked a bit "old" and requires renovation.
Also, the sheets and towels weren't very clean.
I think the price was relatively high, and wouldn't rate this hotel as 4 stars judging by the condition of the rooms.

I spent one night in this hotel during a car journey. I wanted to sleep somewhere close to the Swiss highway to continue my journey the morning after so I chose this hotel, which is located in Germany but close to the Swiss border and just few minutes drive from the highway and the Swiss custom. Basel Airport is also 10 min away.
We arrived at late night, about 1 in the morning, and we still found somebody at the reception to give us the keys. The room was enough spacious and pretty quiet, although very essential and a little bit old style. The bed and pillows were not particularly comfortable. There was a mini bar. There is also a large parking just in front of the hotel.
The good thing of our stay was actually the breakfast, where you have a buffet but you can also order more or less what you want. That was just great.
All in all the price was fair and I think the hotel is worth a stay for its position, if you are travelling and you need to sleep somewhere close to the airport or the highway.
