“Nice hotel, excellent location and beautiful town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

We came across this hotel by chance as we were looking for something in Titisee and most decent hotels there were either booked or were way too expensive. Hinterzarten is 1 stop away from Titisee or around 3kms walk. The town is picturesque. Its a small quaint village except that all houses are large and exceptionally beautiful. I think more than 50% of houses are either professional hotels or guesthouses or offering free rooms. 5 mins walk in any direction and you are out of the town into the serene forests.

The hotel is right next to the station making it very convenient and despite the proximity to the station still offers beautiful views. The staff is very friendly, can speak good English and is always in traditional costumes. The rooms and the vicinity is very clean (and so is the entire town). Overall it gives a feeling of a family run traditional hotel. They have additional amenities which for some reason they don't popularize like free Hochshwarzwald card (trust me this is a great card) and free sauna. You can book massage which is also reasonable. The restaurant is nice and traditional with decent eating options. The dinner menu gets almost over by 9 :(. I guess the only think which could have been better is the breakfast which was quite basic.

We were looking for a room that will be big enough for two adults and two teenagers. We have been offered a room at their satellite house, Sonne Hotel (located about 100m from the main building).

We received the room on the ground floor, which was designed for handicapped people. The room was very big, but it feels like something was missing. For example there is a small sink in the living room but they didn't offer a kettle. Breakfast was good, and the staff were very nice and helpful (one of the reason for us to choose this place was the Wi-Fi that they claimed they have. When we arrived the Wi-Fi wasn't working but the do their utmost to solve the problem).

Stayed here based on the previous reviews, we travelled from Zurich just for a quick break. We had a truly superb stay for 3 nights. We had a lovely room right at the front with a balcony, immaculately clean and very nicely decorated, and one previous reviewer mentioned the shower, I can confirm it is one of the most powerful I have ever been in. Restaurant is delightful and was packed for the entire 3 nights we were there, delicious food and great service! Cant wait to return actually, it was a great time away. Lots of things going on in the village and you get some great discounts with the card they give you upon check in, I think we saved almost as much as we paid for the room in discounts, im not kidding. Great location for all you golfers, hikers and bikers.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 31, right at the front on one of the pretty balconies. Very quiet at night, dont...

I am delighted to have discovered this gem of a hotel and can not wait to return. Walter, the owner and his team could not have done more to make us feel welcome and at home, even putting up with my appalling attempts to speak German with infinite patience and a wry smile! Freiburg is one of the loveliest cities I know and staying in this cosy, warm, stylish and welcoming place was the icing on the cake. Fabulous location, lovely room, great beds and bathroom, with everything you needed, great breakfast and dinner and a wonderful atmosphere. One really felt part of the family as opposed to yet another tourist trooping through. Yes, we were very happy here and would heartily recommend it!

The restaurant is great (breakfast and dinner)
it is more than just a typical german hotel...its a real hotel, professionally run
clean, large rooms, new bath fixtures
nothing is missing...even parking

Room Tip: THE SONNE (SUNNY) Is newer, without hords of bustours

Could not really fault this hotel or its delightful location. Given a garage for the motorcycles on arrival. Room spotless and it included a safe for valuables.Other guests have commented on the showers and they are the most poweful I have ever known. Well decorated and maintained rooms, staff very pleasant and a lovely location that had some sort of street party on the evening we stayed there., which I thought added another element to the visit. Well worth a visit and I cant imagine even the fussiest would be dissapointed.
