I've been staying at the Riesen since 1999. This is one of my favorite hotels in all of Germany and in the top ten of my favorite hotels in Europe. Authentic, old, beautifully decorated with plenty of personal charm. The couple who run it are NOT Jewish, as one poster said. What looks like the Star of David hanging from the hotel sign is actually the Brewer's Star and it marks a house given the right to brew beer. This is an ancient symbol and predates the use of the Star to designate the Jewish people. Anyway, a stay at the Riesen is to experience a bit of old-style German hospitality. Fresh bread is served on your table in the morning along with homemade jams and generous portions of cheese, ham, salami, etc. The coffee is excellent. The place is quiet at night, except for rooms which face the street which can be a little loud due to passersby who have had a little too much "fun" out in the many pubs which surround the Riesen. Ask for a room at the back of the hotel and you will sleep like a baby. No TVs or even phones in the rooms, ah, this is relaxation to the max!
