This is only a review of the restaurant, not the hotel. I visited Kristina's Esszimmer for lunch on recommendation from the owner of an excellent wine estate in the neighboring village. Driving up to the Jagd Hotel Rose, I was skeptical. It looked like a typical German Pension or small hotel and the dining area was rather non-descript. But oh, the food. Has a two star Michelin chef decided to practice his wizardry off the culinary radar? As an appetizer, I enjoyed perfectly cooked corn-fed hen with asparagus and salad. The entree was a wonderful venison filet and steak with traditional sides. At 24 euro, they were basically charging me for the uncooked meat alone- what a bargain! And for dessert a delicious and creatively concocted vanilla themed plate with creme brulee and two other items. After a perfect espresso, I sat both stunned and satisfied. Was it all a dream? The food just didn't fit to the setting.
