“Stunning situation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

We stayed here for 2 nights in a room with a beautiful view over the mountains. On arrival we were shown to a room which was like an oven. We were assured it would cool if we opened the windows. It didn't and we realised the heat was coming from under floor heating. We found the lady who showed us in and tried to explain the problem. She was not German and found it difficult to understand my husband's German. Eventually she phoned the owner and we were shown to an adjoining room which was fine. The problem was that the under floor heating on this room was stuck on full and was fixed the following day. After that all was well. The location and room were stunning but the guesthouse lacked friendliness. The only other member of staff we saw was the lady who did the breakfast. The breakfast was quite basic but when one family took all the eggs as they came into breakfast, the lady happily did some more when I asked, and brought mine to my table. . You can get tickets for the ferry on lake Konigsee at breakfast which is worth doing, as it avoids queuing. Also the Berchtesgaden card is useful for half price parking and bus trips We took the bus to Salzburg. Lake Konigsee is beautiful and it is worth going early if the weather is good. A good base for this beautiful region but rather impersonal which you don't expect from a guest house.

We stay there 3 nights and by luck the weather was hot and sunny making the stay enjoyable. At arrival we were greated by a nice lady and this was our check in, this is the place to stay if you want to rest the set up is beautiful. Rooms were super clean ans recently renovated, only the Iron was missing. In the basement a sauna is available as well as a fridge with beer and wine ,coffee is also available.Parking will be tight if you arrived late in the evening. Continental breakfast was nice and complete with a good selection .Hotel is 15 minutes from Salzburg away from the city . German is spoken and a little English only at breakfast time.

Nice views, good breakfast, friendly hosts, slide for our young daughter :-)
Unfortunately the low clouds prevented us from enjoying the lovely surrounding views, to the max. In the right atmospheric conditions, can even see the Kehlsteinhaus (Eagle's Nest), from the guesthouse.

The typed sheet with the weather forecast and activities in the village, placed at each b'fast table, were a very good idea... However it was only in German! The language barrier could be a problem at times.

This B&B is in a beautiful location. We had 2 rooms in the new building. The rooms were very spacious and furnished very nicely, the bathroom was huge. Everything was very clean. We had big glass doors that opened to a gorgeous view of dramatic mountains. We could even see Hitler's Eagles Nest from the room. The only real negative is the breakfast. The rolls and cereals are not fresh, very limited choices on meats and cheeses, and although we always arrived for breakfast at least one hour before it ended, the scrambled eggs were gone and not replaced. Apparently, the chef makes a batch and leaves. I heard many people ask for the eggs and were told there would be no more coming. Very odd! It is a little walk to restaurants, which is actually very nice as long as it isn't raining. The woman who served breakfast, cleaned our rooms, and checked us out of our rooms was very nice and very diligent.

Room Tip: Rooms in the new building are very spacious and furnished nicely.

The rooms were average with out of date furnishings and the bathrooms were very small but with very nice showers. The location was good, as long as you have a vehicle as it is a LONG walk to either Berchtesgaden or Koenigsee. Schoenau am Koenigssee was within walking distance and there were some restaurants located there but not with the views and character of the other nearby towns.

The staff at the hotel were agreeable but not all that friendly. Breakfast was average. The best part of the stay was definitely the view of the Eagle's Nest/Kehlsteinhaus and the surrounding mountains!

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a balcony and view of the Eagle's Nest!
