Decent, conveniently situated establishment of good reputation we have been visiting from time to time regularly travelling further south to Italy. The level of services has somewhat declined over the years as Ara has been forced to compete with cheap B&B hotel next door we also have been frequenting. B&B is not bad, just cheap and cheerful type. Ara on the other hand aspires to 3 star Hotel status with capital “H”.
Location. Practically along A9 motorway, which has a downside if your room is the one facing it, as traffic noise can be disturbing. There is a convenient hotel car park, petrol station nearby and a garage (should you need one as we did a few years ago). Besides, it is only minutes away from charming Ingolstadt city center. If you have time it is certainly worth as visit.
The receptionist speaks English, the head waiter not so good but good enough to place on order. On the subject of language- there is only one English TV channel available -BBC World.
This time we had a misfortune to get a room on the top floor looking out onto the motorway; thus the traffic noise, I had mentioned earlier. Besides, it was broom stick cupboard size but clean and comfortable enough. Nevertheless, I would not like to get it again as I know from previous experience, there are better rooms to choose from.
The lobby, reception area and the restaurant are nice looking and presentable, like a proper hotel while B&B hotel looks more like a hostel and canteen in comparison.
We had a very good dinner in Ara’s ristorante and the lamb was pretty impressive. I can sincerely recommend it. One odd thing however: we could not order a corked bottle but were offered a mezzo litro carafe instead while the bottles of various vintages were adorning the side table.
Well, I think Ara is doing a god job successfully competing with more down market B&B next door. We paid 67Euro for the double room, 63E for the dinner for two with 1/2l of wine and 12E for breakfast. It was a nice experience and we had a good rest before resuming out travel.
Top floor rooms to be avoided especially if on the side of the motorway
