A surprisingly clean and well kept family-owned hotel. Rooms were spotless, very clean shower/bathroom. Definitly looks recently renovated given that all seemed so new for a supposedly 100+ years old place. It has a private courtyard on the river (or small stream) bank. Prices were correct for the level of comfort. Charming staff and very kind and helpful owner/manager.
Breakfast was very well laid out: buffet style with freshly baked pastries, lovely all-sorts-of cereals bread, fresh marmelade, fruits, cheese, salads, ... all the more appealing since most were freshly baked every morning ( I suspect the traditional bakery next door must have been the source!!). No baked beans or roast potatoes though!!!
Please note however that there is no restaurant or room service available for dinner/lunch. A small bar is located on the ground floor - cozy but simple. One more complaint for international travellers: out of the 36 tv channels, just one english channel - CNN! All the rest were german. Some of the staff also not conversant with english, the main receptionist and the owner are fluent in english but the rest barely understand. Still they were all very welcoming.
Overall, I had a pleasant week in an otherwise all-too-quiet Buhl. Just in the middle of the main street opposite the main church. It is a welcome retreat from the more active Baden Baden area.
