The Parkhotel Frank is a most welcoming establishment. Staff do everything in their power to your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The lounges and dining room are beautifully laid out and furnished and the garden is an oasis of beauty and calm. An enormous amount of effort has gone into making the hotel what it is.
We stayed there in early July 2012. We were amongst the tiny minority of non German speaking guests but the staff went to great lengths to look after us. This included translating the menus each day and presenting them very nicely at our table.
The hotel is quietly located just on the edge of Oberstdorf, about 3 minutes walk from the Kur Park and the pedestrianised shopping area and perhaps 8 minutes walk from the train and bus stations. The views to the rear and side of the hotel are of mountains and meadows with the ski jump and Nebelhorn cable car forming the backdrop.
We encountered just two problems with the hotel, one major, one minor. The major problem was sleep quality, due mainly to the use of poor quality bedding and bed linen. It was strange really that that the finest quality linens graced the tables in the dining room and were changed after every meal while the beds were dressed in low maintenance synthetics. This poor bedding gave a hot sticky and generally poor sleep experience. When we raised this with reception an effort at remediation was made by spreading a single better quality sheet across portion of large bed. While it made a slight improvement it was hardly what one expects in a five star bedroom.
The lesser problem concerned the so-called "Gala Candlelit Dinner" on Sunday evening. There were no candles but of greater concern was the lack of choice on any of the courses. The Gala Dinner is a disguise for pre-prepared, mainly cold, dishes. It must be staff night off in the kitchen so the waiting staff raid the refrigerator and serve what was prepared on Saturday. We were asked to dress up for the occasion. Expectations were high but the dinner was a huge disappointment.
Overall this is a lovely place to stay and the food (except the Gala Dinner) was excellent. We look forward to visiting Oberstdorf again, but until we hear they have improved the bedding situation we wont be going back to Parkhotel Frank
We stayed in Room 79 which offered a good view (across a small road and a low building) to the mount...
