“Old world charm in a rustic setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2014

The hotel is an old city palace in a very central location in the historic center of Bamberg. We had two giant rooms(just what you expect from an old palace). The staircases are old stone, the hotel oozes history and it has been tastefully renovated with a keen eye for all that is historic and original in the building. There is also a central courtyard where you can sit outside for drinks or dinner. The breakfast buffet is typical German high quality. Bamberg is a must on your list of UNESCO World Heritage sites and this hotel is right in the middle of it.

Room Tip: Get the larger rooms for a couple of euros more, it's definitely worth it.

This is a beautiful hotel in the old city. The room was excellent and very spacious. Great breakfast in the most beautiful room. There is no wifi in the rooms although it is stated that there is. The stay was however great!!

Room Tip: When visiting over weekends be aware that most restaurants are closed. Worth trying the Rauchbeer at...

The wifi, or lack of it, really lets this hotel down. The only place we could get a reliable signal was in the bar. Apart from that, the room was comfortable. We booked a garden room because some reviewers said the main street could be noisy so we wanted to make sure our room was not in the front of the hotel. This worked fine as our room was well shielded from any street noise which was important as I like to sleep with my window open. Having said that, I think calling it a garden room was stretching the point a bit as the only space our room overlooked was a small alley with a bit of ivy growing up the fire escape. See photo.
Breakfast on the Sunday morning was good with a nice range of buffet items to choose from but on the Monday it was pretty poor as the plain muesli had run out and wasn't replaced. Same with the fresh fruit salad although that was sort of topped up with some chopped apple and orange segments when I pointed out the lacking items. I'm not into cooked breakfasts so this was disappointing.
There is no lift as this is an old building so if stairs are a problem this would not be a good place to stay.
Location was very good as it is right in the heart of the old town.

We searched for a nice little hotel in the centre of this beautiful city.
Everthing was beyond expected. Spacious rooms, a lot of flair and hyper-friendly staff, that helped a smuch as they could.
The breakfast was full of different tastes ....
Any time again!
Thank you Palais Schrottenberg

Room Tip: Room 6 + 7 are the most spacious

A late arrival in Bamberg on a Saturday night... most places recommanded by Le guide du Routard were full, the Moroccan chap at the reception was very helpful, found us a room which suited our mood for the last night of our European trip. Modrn furniture in a 17th century place: this is the modern version of Baroque. We loved it, even more having our breakfast in their colourful dining room with authentic 18th century wood floor ! A place we hope to visit again....

A good hotel with central location. Close to the Slenkerla brewery. The place is quiet, with internal court. The building has hign ceilings and very well kept rooms. We slept on the first floor. The room had a bathtub which we specially asked for beforehand.
The breakfast is served in the room of the former restaurant in the same building. The staff is helpful and friendly. My personal greetings to Ms. Karina at the reception desk.
We had a problem with the Wi-Fi connection. Inside the room it worked with errors and frequently disappeared. The Wi-Fi connection was stable and fast in the court.
The hotel closed its restaurant and doesn't plan to have it open in near future.

Room Tip: My room was #1 on the first floor. Quiet and with a bathtub.

We stayed in the second location across the street. We had a nice room with a good, hot shower, which was nice after a long day. The location is in the best area of Bamberg, close to all the best historic sights and evening activities (restaurants and pubs).
