“Nice hotel in a charming town.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2011

We (my mom, husband, and I) decided to stay at the Best Western Hotel in Bamberg due to the positive reviews on Tripadvisor. We arrived by train and the hotel was about a 10 minute walk from the train station. The room was a bit small, but modern and clean. It was exactly what we wanted. The staff was efficient and helpful. Our double room cost 97 Euros/night and my mom's single room cost 72 Euros/night. The breakfast buffet was extensive and provided a good variety of food. The hotel was located about a 5 minute walk from the very charming old town of Bamberg. We loved the town and the hotel. We would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is about 10 minutes from the railway station, and less than that in the other direction to the city centre. Our room was quite spacious and had all the facilities we needed (other than good tv channels!). Breakfasts were good and generous. The staff were delightful and helpful. If you need park your car, there is a garage underneath the hotel, which has spaces most of the time - the rates are surprisingly cheap.

Room Tip: No idea - I only went in one room!

This is in many ways a typical business hotel - large, modern and with all the facilities a business traveller needs including free wi-fi. What is not typical is the attention to detail in the design of the rooms, the outstanding breakfast buffet and service and the overall quality of the experience including free coffee and croissants all day in the lobby.

We were leisure travellers and at the time of booking, despite reading reviews on trip advisor we were not aware of the free - yes free laundry facilities (you only pay for the detergent tablets which are provided at cost price by reception). This was an absolute boon to us as we were touring Germany for 3 weeks by train following a flight and had very limited luggage. The joy of being able midway through our holiday to freshen our clothes in a free laundry (and on the same floor as our room) was immeasurable.

But that wasn't all. The room, the breakfast buffet and the service were all outstanding. As hinted in my title, there was a slight negative that because of the size of the hotel and hence the number of staff it was slightly impersonal. This cannot be helped but might be relevant to some potential guests. To us it was not a problem. Even so, all the staff we met or dealt with were pleasant, and extremely helpful. Having arrived late in the evening we would have preferred that the hotel had a restaurant although snacks were available at the bar. Nevertheless we knew that it did not have a restaurant before booking and booked anyway, knowing we would arrive late.

The location was superb for our needs being midway between the Railway station and the old town.

Yet with all this the price was reasonable and represented outstanding value for money.

If returning to Bamberg we wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else and it fully deserves its #1 ranking in the trip advisor reviews,

By far the best beds we slept in on our 3 week trip through Germany and Central Europe. Easy walk to old town. Superior service and the breakfasts were great. Parking underground was easy and affordable.
Clean,spacious and well appointed rooms.
Very affordable. Use a Tom Tom or Garmin for easy way to find the hotel as you drive into town.

Room Tip: All were off the roadway. Our room was very quiet.

We have been staying at this hotel every year since it opened. We keep choosing it as it is very convenient for business and pleasure. It is a 10 to 15 min. walk to the train station. It is well maintained. You can even do laundry on the third floor which is welcome if you have been on the road for a while. Rooms are a comfortable size and very clean. The breakfast is a typical German breakfast with everything you can imagine. Staff at the breakfast make sure you get everything you want. Parking is conveniently below the hotel. One of the best hotels I have stayed in Germany.

Hotel was clean;well located;with pleasant and efficient staff. I would have preferred firmer pillows in the bedroom.

This proved a very comfortable stay for an overnight stop travelling back from Austria to the UK. Given the hot weather, the air conditioning was most welcome. Large room and comfortable bed. Breakfast was quite decent with plenty of food an the opportunity to make your own pot of tea - excellent, but they seem to have adopted the British Holiday Inns idea of serving coffee a cup at a time (no, please - we need a pot).

Location is good being next to the must see City of Bamberg - an amazing historic city well worth a major detour to visit.

Hotel has no dinning restaurant although there is a snack bar.
