“Good for business traveler but not for tourists”

Stuttgart Marriott Hotel Sindelfingen

Jun 7, 2007

We got this room for $119 a night and stayed 2 nights. The lobby is quite nice and seems updated. There's a business center, two restaurants and a bar in the lobby area. Guests have free use of the pool and fitness center. Rooms are spacious with large closet space. Bathroom is narrow, a little tight with a low ceiling with a shower and tub combination. We had enough towels but they were thin and worn.

Overall, everything about this hotel feels dated from the 70s, maybe even earlier. Our bed had a dip in the center so we kept rolling to the middle of the bed. Needs to be replaced. Room didn’t have microwave, fridge or even a coffeemaker! This is a Marriott 3 star hotel but it felt more like a budget motel, like a Fairfield or Holiday Inn.

The biggest disappointment was the restaurant downstairs. After driving the autobahn for 3 hours, we decided to eat here and turn in early. Big mistake. It was the worst food with absolutely the worst service we have had in our many years of travel. We won’t eat here again and don’t recommend it to anyone.

We picked this hotel for the convenience to a meeting we were attending. Otherwise, we wouldn’t stay here. It isn't convenient to anything else! Unless you have a specific reason to stay at this hotel, there are so many more nicer places to stay in Sindelfingen.

We have been there before and enjoyed it a lot again. The room was very comfortable and the breakfast was very good. We also enjoyed the attached steakhouse very much, food and wine were remarkable. Having two children the swimming pool was a winner. We can surely recommend it.

Bill Marriot doesn’t give anything away. Nice enough hotel on a busy street surrounded by used car lots, and a 30-minute walk to the European Delivery Center. October 2006, 144 € senior rate WITHOUT breakfast. Nice Continental breakfast in room 13 € per person + tip. A one liter bottle of Evian in the room- but 5 € please. Two bottles of local wine also on a little table @ 7.50 € each. WiFi 12.50 € a day. Turned out WiFi was a bargain as dial-up to Stuttgart ended up costing 26 € for two days. One energy saving florescent light by the two beds so you can barely read. No coffee maker in the room, (Bill makes more money that way). Mini-bar but no safe. 19 inch Phillips TV that is so old the numbers on the remote are worn away, (hey big TV’s cost money). Tiny single-sink bathroom, maybe 8’by 9’, adequate closet. Steakhouse Restaurant very nice but watch out (think Bill) a .75 liter of Pellegrino sparkling water was 8 €!
On the positive side, there was a desk and a captain’s chair with a floor lamp so reading is possible, extra friendly staff, some new special mattresses with plenty of pillows and USA Today outside the door in the morning. Financial Times in the lobby with free apples and a “by 6PM on day of stay” cancellation policy. Windows tilt open about 5 inches at the top. We next stayed in the Quality Hotel Residence, 105 € WITH breakfast but a 24 hour in advance cancellation policy. We much prefer the Quality Hotel Residence for a host of reasons aside from the price, see my review.

Good job the footie was on the TV, this hotel is miles from anywhere! There were a lot of Australians here for the World Cup (I hope they weren't disappointed with their stay!)
Mercedes booked this hotel for us as part of a pick-up package, it must be the closest hotel to the factory in Suttgart. Whilst there was nothing at all wrong with the hotel (the pillows are to die for!) I wouldn't have booked it myself. I would have preferred to stay further away from the factory somewhere where there was a bit of life. The food in the restuarant was very good and the staff were very friendly. I'd recommend business people only here!

This hotel is very nice, but you'll have to travel 5 minutes (by car) to get to the pedestrian part of downtown Boeblingen, which is a great way to experience modern Germany.

Location - in a business section of Sindelfingen (an Opel dealer next door), but there are some restaurants within EASY walking distance - a Chinese place (kitty corner) and a small pizzeria/cafe (just up the street). The hotel is just off A81, so highway access is easy, but it isn't so close as to get traffic noise. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is an easy 1.5 hour drive away, and Boeblingen has a nice downtown area, with the Ober and Unter See to stroll around.

Room/hotel - the rooms are very up-to-date. Bed was comfortable, but seemed overly soft compared to other beds we stayed on in Germany. The lobby is very modern, and as others have stated, Mercedes has a big influence on the hotel (you can purchase models of Mercedes cars). There is a very nice pool and sauna, and a masseur was on-hand during our visit.

Staff - spoke very good English and were helpful with maps, directions, questions, etc. Wait staff was attentive, rooms were cleaned properly, etc.

Restaurant - The hotel has a very nice breakfast buffet with a full range of German and American fare (we ran into a number of American business and military travelers here). We ate one meal in the upscale "Steakhouse" restaurant, and while the food was very good, it was extremely pricey - I requested a simple glass of water, but was presented with the cheapest bottled water the restaurant offers, @ 10 Euros! The fact that the restaurant does not have a proper non-smoking area can impact the meal. For the opposite end of the spectrum, check out Pizzeria Sci-Fi just a 3 minute walk up the street from the hotel. Excellent pizza, and they sell Heineken in bottles.

Parking - the hotel has an underground parking lot that fills up rather quickly (head directly for the 2nd floor where spaces tend to be more prevalent and roomier, especially at the back of the garage). The turn into and out of the garage entrance can challenge event the best drivers - hint: swing WIDE when entering. The cost was around 13 Euros/day. Make sure to look around at the vehicles parked in the garage - I spotted new Mercedes vehicles that I've only seen spy shots of in the American automotive magazines.
