“Let down!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

We have bean meaning to visit here before and finally got around to it last night,my birthday.there is no parking directly outside but a car park is just overt the road.WE entered to be met by a very busy room, obviously 1 or 2 birthday parties going on.We were shown to our fairly central table and immediately realised we were on the direct path for staff to kitchen and customers to toilets,we asked to be moved but no spare tables, obviously too many tables in a small area.WE had barely sat down and were asked for drinks order, not always a bad thing I suppose.the menu and waitress arrived and took our order(5 ) people,4 adults and 1 child.our starters arrived quickly, soups and pate,ok quality.after clearing our plates we waited around 10mins and the mains arrived, well 4 of them, had to wait an extra 10 mins for mine as they said we only ordered 4 mains, why would 5 people order 4 mains, yet they served 5 sets of veg.when my mains arrived I asked for fresh veg, they wer'nt happy with that.the food itself was nice but the service needs sorting.we had to ask 3 times for our bill.i am sure on a quiet night it's a decent venue but avoid on a weekend.......o and the repetitive dimming of lights, parading of cake and singing of happy birthday is irritating.

“no organisation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

Booked table for 4 for sunday lunch. Opted for the 2 courses, all starters were satisfactory, prawn cocktails, potato skins, and garlic mushrooms lovely. We decided to go to the carvery, it was like a skating rink, where you stand to get served, mash pot and turnip had been dropped on the floor, the lighting was bad, so the food was not apparent on the floor till you walked and then you realised you were slipping.Told the manageress who cleared it up, but in my opinion the floor needs to be checked reguarly as there are usually plenty of families with children, who also make a lot of noise.I got my food on plate, but husband had to stand and wait as the potato had ran out, he waited for 15 minutes, conseguently the remaining food on his plate went cold. No one suggested to keep his food warm, after 15 mins someone brought him a small portion of potato out, but there was still not enough for the rest of the queue. We finally sat down, and the couple with us, just sat down without the potato as they were sick of waiting. We complained to the manageress, who knocked 20 per cent off our bill which was good of her, but we will not be going back

“Noisy but nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

Good cheap italian food, fast service and chatty staff. Big room with no dividers and popular with families so always noisy. Not the place to go for a tete a tete but great for a birthday.

“Last visit”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

This was the 4th time we visited this restaurant and it will definitely be the last. The last 3 times we have been so disappointed but give it one more shot on Friday evening. The Pate starter was 3 large pieces of toast, way too thick and was accompanied by a watery sweet sauce. The portion of Pate was so small that we had to laugh about it but certainly not enough for all the thick slices of toast. The minestrone soup seemed very similar to packet soup. The meatballs in sauce was very bland and the sauce was exactly the same as the soup! The seafood pasta dish contained muscles which were not fresh. The chips were hard and certainly re-heated. The cheesecake was perfect and the star of the show! Each time we have visited this restaurant we have completed 3 courses in under an hour (40 mins last visit) and we always ask the staff to wait longer in between courses as we feel rushed.

“Back on form”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

We used to be regular visitors to the restaurant, but about a year ago the service and the food took a dive, we went back this week with friends and had a wonderful meal, Pepe's is back on form!
