“Strange yet amazing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

I stayed at Hotel First for about a week in April 2013. At the time I found the Hotel pretty bewildering but when I look back it was actually pretty great!

Strange things:
No reception after 6pm. We arrived after 8.30pm in pouring rain and even though we had been warned that we had to go down to the resturant, finding it was a struggle and although I have some German, the restauranteur had almost no English and not great German so checking it was...tiresome.

The breakfast room - Tina Turner is on repeat and I'm pretty sure the same food was out the entire week. But, there was lots to choose from and the coffee was good.

Location - you literally cannot walk anywhere. We didn't have a car but it meant we had to get an incredibly expensive taxi just to get down the road for some dinner (if you don't want to eat at the overpriced and average restaurant downstairs). Do not stay here if you don't have independent transport or need any kind of evening entertainment beyond your laptop/tv. But, the view is cool if you get a room on the front side of the hotel down to Lake Zurich.

Great things:

Very spacious rooms. I could have fit a plane in mine.

Bathroom: incredible. Again, really spacious and a great shower. Couldn't ask for more mirrors.

Generous desk space and fast internet. Easy and comfortable to work at the desk.

Sabrina is lovely - so when you get any service, it's good!

Overall: if you are independent and don't need concierge service (or anything near it) and don't mind Tina and Ike but love comfort - Hotel First is the place for you! I have to rate it as 'Very Good' because thinking about it's quirkiness puts a smile on my face just thinking about it - a memorable hotel!

Think of it as your home away from home: unless you have a battler - you do not expect to be constantly served, but You enjoy your luxurious comfort, amazing queene size bed, spacious shower (or if you choose the junior suite like we did - you'll have a huge jacuzzi in your bathroom with the window), large TV screen, free WiFi, parking spot close to the entrance, delicious coffee in the morning (brewed in your room or served in the breakfast hall with a simple nutritious meal). If anything goes wrong - the manager is just a phone call away and responds quickly to any request. We have selected this hotel as our home base in Switzerland: my fiancé works nearby and we travel from the USA every month and stay here 10 to 21 day for the last year and a half. The location is a bit odd - You need a car to stay here, although there is a limited bus service just outside the hotel, or 5 min taxi ride from Pfaffikon, Feusisberg or Wallerau train stations. Surrounded by the traditional Swiss countryside, however Zurich is only 20 min away and good restaurants are abound. Also "Aldi" food market is only 5 min walking distance. There are plenty of info at the reception desk and in the hospitality book in your room about where to eat. "La Pizza", our favorite, will deliver food in. There was an amazing restaurant in the basement of this hotel when we moved in, but it has not reopened yet after the last year's flood. This is a family operated hotel - and they work hard to ensure your stay here is pleasant. Great value for Your currency!

The first thing that comes to mind is: odd. It's a weird hotel with a weird kind of service. The rooms are excellent, but are in no comparison with the rest of it all. If only for the room, I would rate it very good, but location and over-all 'feel' makes it an average.

Hotel First Feusisberg is called a business hotel, which it is not. The decision to book this hotel was its price and its convenient location 'en-route'. Having read the comment about no staff at reception after 18:00, I wrote an e-mail, which was promptly answered with explanation of a safe deposit box that would hold the keycards to enter the hotel and the rooms.

Another reason to book this hotel was the restaurant at the "Dorfplatz", which indicates it would be in a town center. This is far from the truth and, worse, the restaurant was closed because of water damage.

Upon arrival, we got the keycards and entered the hotel. A small reception area leads to a staircase that, in turn, leads to a round marbled hall with a big piano in it. Around it are the doors to the rooms. Keycard turned out to be from a room that was already occupied. Luckily, the emergency telephone number connected to someone that gave another pincode to get another keycard from the safe.

Entering the room was also odd, since the layout is very different because of the round structure of the hotel. It is all very stylish and the room, as well as the bathroom, is very spacious and well designed. Though not my taste, in every aspect, the room is simplistically classy and luxurious.

My room had a queen-size bed. Nice mattress, firm pillows (about 8 of them). A desk with minibar, an espresso machine and a big flatscreen TV. A lounge area with two seats and a lounge table. Two doors leading to a balcony. The room also had airco. Lighting system a bit weird, as a central control box offers a main switch and lamps have their own switches as well. Wi-fi internet at no additional charge. TV with an average selection of local and international channels.

Spacious bathroom with rainshower, toilet and 2 sinks. Vanity kit and toiletries available in twofold. Slippers and bathrobe also available. It was all luxury and marble and stylish. Water pressure and temperature excellent. Everything was clean and well taken care off.

Because the restaurant was closed, we looked around and found the Panorama hotel spa & resort with its Collina restaurant. Only go there if you'd like to spend too much money on an excellent meal. Else, drive to a nearby village to get your dinner.

Coming back to the hotel, the oddness of it struck again. Yes, the rooms are excellent, but the location, the building, the feel of it: it's just weird and seems out of place.

Breakfast is served in a room with flimsy chairs and tables. It's very different from the luxurious feel of the bedrooms and the marble entrance. There's a small selection of bread, meat and cheese. Staff may or may not be attending. A lady came in to poor us a coffee, but didn't seem to speak German, or English, or French.

Finally, at check-out time, we got to meet the girl at the reception. She quickly and silently took care of things and before we knew, we were outside the hotel again.

All-in-all, a weird experience.

I think I would stay here again if in the area.

The hotel has no view on beautiful scenery. It doesn't have a terrace. There's some parking space. There doesn't seem to be public transportation nearby. You come to this hotel by car and you use it only for spending the night.

I stayed here for several weeks at a time when I was on business in Switzerland. The rooms are spacious and the luxurious. The hotel has little in the way of amenities but the staff was very friendly and super helpful. This is not the place to stay if you don't have a car. They don't serve meals on Sunday. If you have a car and like luxury, this is a great place.

First, a huge heating/air conditioning unit was right outside of our balcony door of our "deluxe" room (nr. 16), but we could not change rooms because as soon as we checked in - at 6 pm - the reception desk closed for the night. Strange, we thought, for a "business" hotel. So sleep was scarce with the on-going noise from the heating/air conditioning unit. If the electric roller-blind would have been functioning, we could have possibly blocked out some of the noise. After a poor night's sleep, I was unpleasantly surprised to find that after 10 glorious seconds under the "rain" shower, the water went cold - and stayed cold until it was time to leave for our morning business meeting. We were not met at reception with apologies and a substantial discount on our stay, but instead with a minimal discount, no apologies, and a lot of arrogance.

We stayed at Hotel First for two nights, Dec 29 and 30. The rooms are simply perfect, the service excellent, the price very reasonable. The location is not for posters, you will not get nice views over lake Zurich, but we (family with 2 children) used it as a base for visiting neighboring locations and it proved a great choice. Compared to other places we looked to stay we definitely got the best value for money rate...
Driving Distances: Zurich: 20 min, Zug: 30 min, Chur 40 min, Luzern 40 min, Lichtenstein 40min, Rhein falls 1 hour...
The staff was very friendly. A problem (misunderstanding) that came up during check - in was immediately resolved by the manager.
Many - many thanks, everybody at Hotel First, for making this stay a perfect one.
