We stayed for 8 nights in the "Fantasy Hall suite" which we loved. Our rooms were spacious and richly furnished with antique furniture, wall hangings and interesting icons and paintings. Floors were tiled with old fashioned, patterned tiles and the odd rug. The bathrooms were functional rather than luxurious but were kept very clean by the staff, as were the rooms. The beds were also very comfortable, with some very nice fabrics.
The rest of the hotel was also similarly well furnished with a mixture of antiques, quirky paintings, and (in the dining areas) lots of potted plants and decorative plant arrangements, with discreet lighting. Everywhere, enormous care was taken to keep everything tidy and interesting - for instance, the table arrangements (fresh fruit, as well as flowers and other produce from the garden) were refreshed daily. We loved the conservatory / outside dining area which is covered over in the winter but we understand is fully outdoors in summer.
The swimming pool area was pleasant with lots of plants and nice furniture. The pool was kept very clean even though the weather was a bit too cold when we were there to swim... but had it been nicer we would certainly have been happy to relax round the pool.
Our evening meals were fantastic - every evening we were served five courses, freshly prepared from fresh produce which was sourced locally - and best of all, interesting and varied. We are picky about food quality (i.e. obsessive foodies) and couldn't fault anything about the cooking or the ingredients. The breakfast buffet was also very good.
Best of all, though, was the utterly friendly and helpful service. The owners and staff were completely relaxed about what time we took our meals (no problem when we turned up two hours later than expected on the day we arrived - they just served us our dinner then). Our daughter had a minor illness - the owner helped us deal with the medical services and even drove to the pharmacy to pick up some medication. They were helpful with information about local walks, where to buy the best goods to take home, etc.
Overall this hotel is charmingly furnished, with great food, and the service has to have been the best experience we have ever had. We'd recommend it to anyone.
