“An Incredible Small Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2005

We stayed at this property in May, 2005 and absolutely loved it. The staff was incredible. Although the restaurant on the resort was one of the best on the island (food that creative and always well prepared), the staff had excellent suggestions for other restaurants. Every morning at breakfast we enjoyed talking with the wait-staff about about where we had dined the night before and our plans for the day. They always warm and friendly. Our room was a Garden Bungalow. It had its own gated entry. The room itself was relatively large. For the island, the bathroom was incredible. Its rare on St. Barth to see a full bath, which this room had. The location was wonderful also. It was approximately at 10 minute drive to Gustavia and a 5 minute drive to St. Jean, but we felt a world away, due to the winding mountain roads of the island (we were shocked the one day that we timed the trip to St. Jean. We would have sworn it took 20 minutes). The beach itself was as nice a beach as I've seen, ranking with Wailea in Maui.

We really wanted to stay at this hotel. But they would not allow us to move rooms for the ONE night we need to coordinate with our flights despite having the available space. For $1300 per night they should lose the attitude...

There is no place more beautiful or romantic to stay in St. Barthelemy than Isle de France. My husband and I chartered a yacht and went around the virgin and british virgin islands for our honeymoon. Four months later, we went on a second honeymoon to St. Barts and had the most wonderful time at Isle de France. We feel like this was our 'true' honeymoon. We stayed in room number seven and were met with freshly cut bouganvilleas and tropical flowers in our room. Waking up each morning to the view was so exhilerating. We could have stayed on our balcony all day. The entire island is the best that the carribbean has to offer in luxury and romance. The service and the food at Isle de France were adequate, but the beach is the best on the island and even if you are not that sociable, do not miss the cocktail hour in the early evening as it is a must. I did my homework for our trip to St. Barts and this is THE place to stay. Most hotels do not allow you to step right out of your room onto the beach like here. We toured most of them and although most of the hotels had plenty to offer, I'm afraid you'll miss out if you do not stay here. Happy vacationing!

we stayed at this hotel year after year until french owners sold it to an english couple. we were stunned by the change in atmosphere from warm relaxed luxury to cold, condescending english colonial caste system. the mood was "jewel in the crown" and we were the unwelcome outsiders subsidizing their lifestyle. with such management, the staff became less attentive and helpful. when we complained about the blaring rock music at breakfast, the pompous manager told us he was trying to appeal to a younger crowd. given that the average age of the clientele was well above 40, this was rather curious. the upshot is that despite a lovely location, we would never return.

Dear Guest,

I’m so sorry to hear that you were not happy with the changes you felt after the hotel was sold some years ago. We strive to give our guests that “coming home” feeling and the high level of repeat guests we have been experiencing for a number of years suggests that we have achieved that.

In the past few years, we have won a number of awards for our service and ambience and so I am confident that if you were to return, you would be able to experience the high level of service you had been accustomed to.

I do hope that we can welcome you back to the place you once loved so much.

Kind regards

Where do I start? My wife and I just got back from Isle-de-France on our honeymoon, and let me first say that they take care of your every need. Upon arrival the reception is friendly and inviting. When we entered our room (Room 11, highly suggest), we were greeted by a gentle breeze from the sea, air conditioned room, soothing music playing from the cd player and beautiful flowers were placed in beautiful patterns all over the rooms. Flammands beach, a few feet in front of our room is the best beach on St. Barths in our opinion - after visiting most of the islands beaches that week. The beach is wide, calm with light waves and shallow enough to enjoy. The food is impeccable and the service is friendly and accomodating. The spa at Isle-de-France is unbelievable. We live in New York City and have experienced many spas and treatments before never before have I had a Shiatswe massage as good as the one I received here by Sabrina. I have not one remotely negative thing to say about this hotel. It is small enough for intamacy, and sophisticated enough for a memorable stay. Needless to say, we were very sad to leave.

We stayed at the Isle de France back in June 03. Flamands is the best beach on St. Barths - and the Isle de France, the best hotel! Pure relaxation! We will be returning, often!

We stayed at the St Barth Isle de France this June with our young adult
children in the "suite on the beach". Cannot recommend it more highly.
We had a two bedroom private villa with all the amenties of a hotel.
Summer rates include dinner the night of arrival, breakfast, and an
evening cocktail daily plus a car or jeep. Isle de France is both
elegant and relaxed. Rooms are beautifully appointed and spacious.
Bathrooms are fabulous. The spa and exercise room were enjoyed by the
young people. Staff was helpful in booking snorkel trips, dinner
reservations, etc. We will definitely go back next year.
