Friends and I stayed at Pianesante earlier this year. The accommodations and hospitality were truly remarkable. Even the satellite internet was fast! I thought our house complemented the gorgeous surroundings very well, and vice versa. The Pianesante was every bit big enough for our party of eight; between the house and the surroundings and what they seem to be fetching per week, this place is a tremendous value. Can't wait to go back!

I stayed at Villa Pianesante with several friends in early fall, and we had a truly spectacular time.

The accommodations were very "luxe rustic" - exactly what you'd want in a setting such as Umbria - the photos here do not lie. The house was well stocked with linens, kitchen supplies, a few bottles of complimentary wine, spare blankets for chilly nights and other basics like citronella candles.

We spent most of our time out in the yard enjoying the stunning view in comfy lawn chairs, in the back lounging at the large pool and picnic area or in the large common room/dining room which can comfortably fit more than a dozen people for dinner and drinks.

Mario swung by several times and was invaluable in organizing wine trips (with transport), dinners and side trips to locals-only stores for literally the best fresh ricotta and mozzarella we have ever had. Our large group of 8 was no challenge.

The villa is convenient to both Rome and Florence (~2 hours drive) and there is much to explore in the countryside closer by. I will say that the roads are not for the faint of heart, if you are not an expert stick-shift driver then I would pay extra for an automatic transmission rental you feel more comfortable with - as you get closer and closer the roads get very steep and tricky to navigate (though it's very much worth it when you arrive at the private location!)

I would strongly recommend any of the villas for a romantic get away or a friends vacation.

Thanks again Mario!

I'd seen hundreds of photos of Umbria and specifically Villa Pianesante before my visit -- but they were absolutely nothing compared to the real thing. Photos just cannot capture the view and the feel of this place.

From the small towns surrounding the hilly drive to the villa, the view from the front yard and vine covered outdoor dining area to the rustic details of the villa itself - everything was perfect. Additionally, Mario was a great host. We'd requested to see some wineries nearby and despite it being the offseason he was still able to get us three great tours and provide transportation. (One winery in Orvieto and two in Montefalco)

Some details...
First of all - the villa is spacious and everything works as it should. The place oozes charm in every single room. The kitchen is well stocked with basic supplies and equipment for cooking dinner every night (which we did, of course!). The bathrooms are large and well maintained, the showers are much much better than the rest of the places I've stayed in Europe. Hot water, good pressure.

While being seemingly miles from real life (in a good way), the villa is still a quick drive from a small grocery store for stocking up on food & wine for meals. The nearest building is a small family run farm and cheese shop. We were able to pick up fresh mozzarella and ricotta the day they were made.

I could go on and on!

Stayed in Villa Pianesante with 7 friends and couldn't have had a better time. Great views, awesome grounds, great staff and a ridiculous amount of space in the villa.

Mario helped us set up a few wine tours as well as a fantastic dinner in nearby Acqualoreto. He couldn't have been more accommodating!

Highly recommended place if you're into, you know, having an AWESOME time in Umbria.

My husband and I had a fantastic stay at Todi Castle Villa precisely, Villa Cipresso. Mario the owner was hands on and checked on us periodically. The Castle catered a wedding we went to and everything was Delicioso !!! the area is convenient to discover Umbria and Tuscany and a short drive from Roma. Reasonable price for all you get. Yes I would go back!!!

Thanks to Mario and his staff, we had a magical week long stay in luxury villa! We toured Umbria, visited friends in Florence and had great food everywhere! Finished trip in Rome with focus on Michaelangelo's sculptures of Moses at St.Peter in Chains, Christ and his Cross at Cathedral of Minerva, and Pieta at St Peters. Awesome trip!

Room Tip: Stay in castle or enjoy countryside in Villas! The Best.

The most wonderful holiday I can remember in the most picturesque setting. The castle is like something out of a fairy tale and we were waited on hand and foot by the superb staff (especially Katarina!!!) If you can tear yourself away from the inviting swimming pool and postcard beautiful grounds, not to mention the comfortable yet modern bedrooms and living rooms with WiFi, the castle is located in the heart of Umbria with Florence a couple of hours to the north and Rome a couple of hours to the south. The station at Orvieto whisks you swiftly to these cities, with free all day parking for your car. Or if you fancy a quick trip to the towns of Todi or Assisi these are a short drive with fantastic restaurants and culture. But believe me when I say you could spend all week at Todi Castle and not feel short changed. If you can book a meal in the banqueting hall in the castle- a treat. Book now!!!!
