“A great place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2011

The hotel was very new and in a great location. The restaurant was delightful with a great menu. The only down side was the fire alarm went off at an ungodly hour of the morning. No fire just smokers in the rooms, not happy Jan...................

We had a very pleasant stay only marred by a fire alarm at 11:30 ish which rang for (it seemed like) 10 minutes. We had been notified by a staff member on our floor that it was a false alarm, but it really woke everyone, or at least put them on high alert. It then rang again around 4:30 in the morning. Was it a real emergency or not? We later found out it was smokers in their rooms both times. Staff were very apologetic and we understand the difficulties involved, however I believe the non-smoking sign and the penalties incurred need to be bigger and more prominently displayed in rooms.
A staff member said they warned those guests they thought might be a risk as they checked in, but I think it is necessary for staff to point out that:-
-the smoke alarm is extremely sensitive,
-when it goes off it wakes the entire hotel, babies included,
-and there is a $250 cleaning fee or penalty payable.
Is the sensitivity of the alarms why there is no toaster in the apartment? (no 349) We would have appreciated a microwave too when we stayed. Otherwise, it is extremely well appointed with appliances.
We felt it unnecessary to have the towels renewed but there are no towel hooks for the large bath towels to hang on. A couple of sturdy hooks on the back of the door would have improved things a lot.
The pool looked lovely and clean, but the area could do with a bit more enhancement such as a few potted plants, etc to create a space that's inviting to be in.
The only other comment I would make is that we went over to the Mercure each breakfast so we could have a smorgasbord meal for the Accor Adv Plus deal. For $25 we had the full works and coffee for two. Much cheaper than a full brkfast on an a la carte menu divided by 2.
I hope these comments will be helpful for the company. We will probably stay again, especially if we are seeing OS guests off on an early flight, and we will hope there are no smokers lighting up in their rooms during our stay.

Dear Accor Guest,

Thanks very much for your review and in particular your understanding of the fire alarms. The safety of our guests and staff is a priority.

We have made changes to how we communicate at check in to our guests as to how sensitive the alarms are.

All our bathrooms should have hooks behind the doors to hang towels and I will follow this up with our Rooms Division Manger.

Our pool area was the last area in the venue to be completed and we are looking into addtional features such as plants..

In regards to the Adv Plus discount on dining, we do extend this in our Cafe for breakfast and do hope that during your next stay you will dine with us.

Once again thank-you for your feedback as it has been very helpful.

Warmest regards,
Belinda

Had an enjoyable time whilst staying here. Will definitely be back again if i'm in the area. I must say I did have trouble finding the place at first, as I was looking for a sign that said mecure, as that was the website I booked it through, but I just rang the freindly desk and they directed us straight there. Breakfast was beautiful, great view overlooking the lake.

Have problem in finding the hotel as the Mercure sign is not visible
Air conditioning is too complicated to operate Takes a while to get it to work
Ask for assistance but there was none
Room is cold on arrival
There is minimal service
There was no information how to ring reception
Restaurant service is fine and understanding and did get a discount being a member
of A Club although we forgot to bring the card
I will rate the hotel 3 out of 5

Dear Guest,

In response to your feedback:

We are working looking at our options in regards to outdoor signage.

I am disappointed to hear that our service did not meet your expectation and will speak to our staff, and in particular explaining to guests how to use the heating and cooling system.

Cards are being designed now to be placed by room phones to advise our guests on how to ring reception.

I am glad to see that our Bistro staff provided you with good service when dining with us.

Warmest regards,
Belinda Lee

The Motel is very well kept and is very new. It is situated on the edge of the Caroline Springs Lake with good views from one side of the building. The problem that we had was that the rooms have adjoining doors which mean that you can hear everything that is beeing said or done on the other side. This was really annoying at midnight and after. You would need to check to see if they have rooms that do NOT have adjoining rooms attached.

As an experienced world traveller, the level of service from check in, to dining in the bistro, to check out was world class. For a business person on a business trip, the room was well appointed, clean and comfortable. I stayed here this time becuase of the location to my business requirements. My experience was so good that I will make this my base for all of my future business trips to Melbourne.
