We've been holidaying in the Born area of Barcelona for about 5 years now and had somehow never come across the Museo del Mamut. On this occasion, we were so glad we did. The museum is tucked away down Carrer Montcada, and you might well miss it with all the queues for the Museo Picasso. Free guidebooks in English are available (you return them when you leave) and it was fascinating to see a side of Barcelona's history which is nothing to do with Modernista architecture or any of the things that make the city famous. Children would love the exhibits, but they are also fascinating for adults. One of the museum staff gave us some really interesting information about how the modern city would have looked in prehistoric times, showing us where Las Ramblas and the Born area would be. Everyone was so helpful, and this place is a little hidden gem.
