“Worth a trip to eat such refined, delicious food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013 via mobile

We drove out of Canterbury on the last evening of our stay there to this amazing restaurant. All the courses we had were extremely good but my apricot soufflé was sublime. The service was attentive and polite and the chef coped really well with my husbands dairy allergy. He even made him miniature meringues with blackcurrant filling to replace the petit four that had milk in them. This was definitely worth driving out from Canterbury. Might even tempt us to make the trip from Basingstoke especially as they have a room where you can stay the night!

“Simply the best birthday dinner I have ever had.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

From the moment we arrived we knew we had made a good choice. Amazing looking restaurant with an incredibly warm welcome. The menu was amazing, in fact almost too good as couldn't decide. All courses tasted amazing and made from locally sourced produce, their was even the surprise of some little taster dishes between meals which were fantastic. To top it off the service was exceptional. We live in London but will be making the trip down to Canterbury much more often now as we have found a new favourite restaurant.

“Wow! Fantastic food and service.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

Pleased to get a late booking at Kathton House last night for our anniversary meal. Friends had recommended this restaurant and the reviews were excellent so we were keen to find out for ourselves! The appearance of the restaurant from the road is not good - you wouldn't look twice......but it obviously sells tables through it's reputation. It was a Wednesday and it was full. The service was attentive but not intrusive. We chose the 3 course meal and were pleasantly surprised by 2 extra complimentary courses, bread and tap water - making it excellent value for money. All the food was delicious, hot and well presented. In particular I would recommend the fillet of beef, which was the best I've ever tasted and cooked to perfection. Try for yourself. We will definitely go again.

“Lovely food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

There was a group of us and we booked a table for a get together. I have eaten here before and was excited about the food, Kathton house did not let me down. The food was first class , could not find a fault with it. Everyone said how good the food was and brilliant service. Cheese board is a must. Overall great food.

“Sssh! Let's keep it a secret”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

We have had the most wonderful dining experience at the Kathton House though did not expect to find such a great restaurant in a side road in Sturry of all places. And ours was the last free table!
The service was friendly, professional and unobtrusive. We were given complimentary appetizers of crab with ginger and lime (I don't eat seafood but this was delicious) and hot from the oven mini rolls. I started with pea mousse with ham hock salad and hubby had scallops; all very good indeed. After a refreshing sage and pineapple sorbet our mains did not disappoint. I had the delicious wild mushroom and courgette stroganoff (with the rice served on the side - perfect) and hubby had the boned chicken which he enjoyed. Everything was freshly cooked, well presented and quite simply wonderful. We could not manage dessert so just had coffee which came with homemade petit four.
Despite the location this is a truly great restaurant. The décor is fresh and simple, they have a garden too (though we didn't see it). Judging by the full house that night, you will need to book and I suggest you do so before word gets out. We will be back soon.
