“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2012

My wife and I just spent our first night at this great hotel and it will not be our last. We did not have dinner in the restaurant as we wanted to explore a bit of old Trois Riviere. We did pop in to the restaurant for a nightcap and it seemed to be quite busy. From what we could see the food presentation looked excellent. The hotel claims they use (as much as possible) only local grown food.

The room was excellent, quiet and the bed was very comfortable. We did take a late night dip in the salt water hot tub on the roof which was wonderful given that the outside air temperature was around minus 12 Celsius (0 F).

We took the included breakfast in the restaurant in the morning and this is the one area in which I feel the hotel fell short. The baked goods were excellent however the cheese laid out consisted of, what looked like, dried Kraft slices.

The staff were extremely friendly and, although we spoke French, they readily switched to English when we were stumped with a word.

The gift shop in the lobby is definitely worth a visit as it is full of interesting arts and crafts from local artisans. We wandered in to buy a $20 poster and walked out over $300 poorer.

We are planning to return next summer and will definitely try the restaurant.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

We enjoyed out stay in this converted Monastery surrounded by lovely gardens. Our room was very elegant, 2 queen beds and big windows that opened. It lacked a few things like a light on the desk or robe hooks in the bathroom, but am assuming these are coming as they are still doing a few finishing touches. We ate in the restaurant, the service was excellent and there was a good choice in different price ranges. The breakfast was a bit of a shmozzle, it was a Sunday morning and it seemed everyone arrived at 8:30 am. The area where the food is put out is on a very small length of counter so only 3 or 4 could be there at a time and you had to line up. It would work out so much better if they put the coffee and tea, etc on another wall where it was easy to access and to relieve the congestion. The hot tub on the roof was a very nice touch overlooking the church bell and the pool and whirlpool where so welcome after a long drive.
The front desk were very accomodating. Would definitely return..

Room Tip: Room 209 has the ice machine outside the door, avoid

This hotel is in such peaceful surroundings, just outside of Nicolet. The spa on the roof is beautiful, as was our hotel room. I felt incredibly relaxed there. The value for price paid was excellent. The staff were helpful. The breakfast selection could possibly be improved by offering omelets instead of just scrambled eggs.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2012

Really enjoyed my recent stay at the Hotel Montfort. Located near a small river in the central Quebec town of Nicolet (about halfway between Montreal and Quebec City), the Hotel Montfort offers the best rooms in the region. My room had great countryside views and plenty of well designed charm and warmth. I loved the 2 large queen beds, and a rather powerful air conditioner came in handy in the mid day summer sun. The room also had a large lcd television with about a dozen English and French stations, a Ipod docking station / alarm clock, a beautiful oversized sunken bathtub, and windows that open (a rare treat) and look out onto the pastural countryside adjacent to this converted 4 storey convent. Also worth noting is the very high quality spoundproofing. Front desk staff were very helpful and polite in both French and English. Another bonus is that outdoor parking was free and ample. Our rate included a buffett breakfast (more about that later) and free use of either their nice new mountain bikes or kayaks, to explore the wonderful nearby riverside lanes and beautiful Quenec farmlands.
As this is a new hotel, a few small areas of the hotel seem a bit unfinished. My only real issue here was with the so-called Buffett Breakfast which was a bit of a letdown (mainly basic grocery bought bread and concentrated juices) and is unfortunately served in an unfinished basement breakfast room. I would strongly suggest they instead make use of the much more impressive vaulted church space they use for occasional private dinners and conferences. Additionally several hallways and elevator areas remain unpainted and the indoor swimming pools we amusingly tiny, but the rooftop hot-tub was amazing.
All in all, The Hotel Montfort is already a very very good 4 star hotel that will be even better, especially once they finish off the remaining trim and decor details and have had time to make some adjustments, especially in terms of breakfast. A perfect place from which to explore the rural central Quebec region as well as a great base from which to explore city of Trois Riveires, or even a superb place to stop on the way to Quebec City.

Room Tip: Make use of the free Kayaks and bikes! Enjoy the rooftop sun lounge and hot tub...
