“Very average place to eat”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

I've eaten at this particular restaurant 3 times now, and after each occasion have said to myself, never again. This morning, they happened to be the only restaurant open so I decided to have breakfast there and give them another chance.

The food was average, and service not bad (though it must be said I was the only patron in the restaurant at the time). The price was reasonable, very comparable to what is offered by restaurants near by, but the food was not better nor worse

However, I was interrupted 10 minutes into my meal by the manager (or owner) screaming at the staff in the back of the restaurant. It was the most uncomfortable and extremely unprofessional.

Considering the choices of eateries in the vicinity, this was a 3rd strike and I'll not be back.

“Average Franchise Restaurant.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2013

If it wasn't for the Sunday 50% off specials, I would probably avoid this restaurant. The food is ok, the service is ok but the restaurant lacks atmosphere. The tables are laid out in square style making you feel exposed and doesn't not invite you to linger and longer than necessary to eat food and go. The waiters do their job adequately but do not engage customers outside of taking orders which also adds to the lack of friendly atmosphere. For a fun night out there are better venues in the area but for price especially when it comes to the specials, the lack of atmosphere is second to the value received.

“Rather Eat At Home!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

Firstly on this site it states live entertainment when there was none! Food was cold! Service was Shocking!! Consistency on same dishes ordered was not to be seen! Too Noisy and cant seem to handle when it gets busy. Management appalling and not interested in setting things right as well could use some manners and a haircut!!

“always a great family night out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

Fot those of us who aren't "Spur people" and we seem to be in the minority, RJ's has always been my favorite family steakhouse, it is unfortunate that this brand has all but vanished and despite their up's and downs over the years the Hillcrest RJ's has a great offering

“average and predictable (but not bad)”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

An average franchise 'family' steakhouse type place. Seems like there are regular specials (set by day of the week if the notice on the table was anything to go by). Service was good, but not exceptional. As it got later staff started lounging about, heads on tables in the corner, waiting for patrons to leave; not ideal. For people who like bunny chow (a local dish), ignore it at this place - it costs nearly R70 (and we now that is crazy for a bunny chow) and when you order it you are told (despite the picture on the menu), that it comes without bread! Really? That's no bunny chow! Take it off the menu people!
Regardless of this, RJs is predictable in a positive way, generally. so if you like what they do, you will go back.
