We went here for a special holiday celebrating a big family birthday. When we arrived we were pleased with what we saw as the hotel had a lovely reception and our rooms were very nice and clean. The wood beams and panelling added to a nice cosy atmosphere and the reception staff were pleasant and helpful. The spa bit is quite nice and the hotel is very well located in resort. This hotel is totally let down by the restaurant food and service.
We were staying half board so had dinner and breakfast included. Dinner comprised of soup (usually) then a starter and main and dessert buffet. The menu was very limited for half board. We were told that sittings were at 7 or 9 but that we could book an alternate time if we wished which we did on the first night. When we arrived we were told there was no table available despite the booking, until we complained and one suddenly became free.
The service in the restaurant was nothing short of appalling. We waited what felt like hours for someone to take our drinks order and were told there was a "wine waiter" who I don't think we ever saw. It took ages for the staff to take our order for dinner and the staff were surly to say the least. The wine was extortionate (33 euros cheapest bottle and it wasn't good wine) and we asked for tap water which didn’t seem to go down well with the staff. We went for after dinner coffee and drinks once in the bar which was also very expensive for not great wine and only half full cups of coffee.
Most nights the soup was cold and the food in general was hit and miss. On the first night some of our party had veal and it was nothing short of disgusting – almost inedible. Although the food was all presented in a “fine dining” manner it certainly was not up to scratch. One night there was tuna steak, I asked for it cooked medium rare and it was completely over cooked regardless. Deserts were always good which made up for it a bit, although I am not a puddings person others of our party are. Some of the fish was nice though and I had a good starter from the al a carte menu one night (a few things on there are available to half board guests without a supplement).
Eggs are allegedly available at breakfast but one time we asked for boiled eggs, when we eventually saw a waitress, and they were still pretty much raw when they eventually came. Another day fried eggs were ordered after we went to find the serving lady and she made no effort to hide the fact that getting them was a chore – she was pretty rude. Also at breakfast tables were not cleared and if you came down late you had a job to find a fresh one or had to clear yourself.
The waiting staff didn’t seem to know what they were doing in general and the service was poor in the restaurant all week. We were told by our rep that the staff were mostly new but dinner service was chaos at best.
We decided to go out a couple of times so substituted dinner for lunch twice. Lunch was better than dinner with a good choice of food but the second time we had lunch we were told we could not be served where we were sitting because it was the bar only (literally 2 feet from other diners and all tables were full there). We were told rudely we should have booked but had previously been told that booking wasn’t necessary. After a word with the manager who then spoke to the “director” we were served where we were sat. By this point in the week we had begun to expect poor service and surly staff attitudes in the restaurant. We would not stay here again.
