“Great location, but don't stay here if you are coming by Eurostar”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

Good value self catering apartments for ski-in/ski-out accommodation in Val Thorens. Functional, small but confortable rooms. Get a balcony over the slopes. Sufficient kitchen. Great location. Good morning boulangerie service. Easy to use ski and boots rooms. But the downside is the inflexibility of the check-in/check-out system. If you are planning on arriving early and leaving late on the overnight Eurostar Ski-Train, be prepared. You won't be allowed to check in before 5pm and you will have to take your chances leaving your baggage in the lobby area with no supervision. We asked the hotel staff, the hotel company, the tour company and Eurostar to help with this situation but everyone just shrugs and says "this is the way it's done here." Unbelieveable.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony over the slopes

Me and 6 of my friends stayed at this hotel last week. 6th April 2013 - 13th April 2013.
It is in a great location, two minutes from local shops, bars and restaurants and also has a ski in ski out option. We had 2 rooms, both with a kitchen each, most of us are over 6ft tall and there were a set of bunk beds in each room, as you can imagine not the best way for grown adults to sleep.
The rooms were very basic, but for what we paid you would expect nothing less, you only have one set of sheets and towels each unless you pay for more. Reception hours are mainly 7 - 7 and one thing we were not aware of is that you have to put a deposit down for the inventory of the kitchen supplies. we paid cash 150 Euros, if we put it on a credit card it would have been 300 Euros. This wasn't an issue but just be aware that you will have to pay this when you check in.
make sure you take advantage of the kitchen and buy lunch ingredients from a local supermarket, it will save you a ton!
Happy holidaying!

Room Tip: higher the floor the better, people tend to walk around the hotel in ski boots this can be quite noi...

We stayed there last week . We got the apartment for six .
One sleeping room with double bed a living room with two beds and a corridor with Double Decker .
The room had a lot of space . Kitchen was a little small but well equipped with everything including dish washer .
Hotel is located in the center of val thorens with direct access to the slopes .
They only complaint is no WiFi in the rooms . WiFi in the lobby is a little slow .

We stayed in Easter week in room 312 (floor -3!), the party being myself and my wife, my father and my 13 year old son.

We had stayed at the Temples du Soleil in the previous year, and this accommodation was superior in almost every respect, except that it was slightly smaller. However, the layout was sensible and fitted our needs perfectly.

Apart from our room not being ready when we arrived (which was approx 2pm), the reception staff were very courteous and helpful. Unusually for a SC apartment they even held a welcome evening on the Monday night, with a free glass of local plonk. All the staff appeared to be committed to high quality service standards.

Despite arriving early, we were given the wifi code for the free wifi which is available in the reception and lounge areas only. This worked well, though did get busy at certain times.

We were given a TV remote, two electronic cards for the doors and two sets of keys for the ski lockers.

The accommodation itself was typical of all of the SC apartments we have stayed in in the alps - decor was tired (I don't mind this!) but functional. The apartment was clean and neat when we arrived with everything we expected (dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine, hob).

There were bunk beds with large wardrobe space between the kitchen area and the lounge. In the lounge was a cabinet for the plates / cutlery etc, a table (which could be folded up neatly into the cabinet), two benches for sitting at the table and two sofas which were used as the beds for myself and my wife, arranged at right angles to each other. The balcony looked out straight onto the slopes.

One feature particularly of note was the excellent ski lockers. Each apartment had a steel locked ski cupboard (all looked well maintained and secure) and a separate steel locked book cupboard, both located on the -6 floor (effectively ground level). These rooms were dry and well kept, and had sufficient seating to put on your boots in the morning. They were also warm, so there was no need to consider taking boots back into your room overnight.

Access to the pistes was about 20m from the boot rooms, and it was straightforward to ski to and from that door from runs either on the Peclet side or from the town side. The natural slope of Val Thorens meant that you could be at the Peclet funitel lift within about 30 seconds of leaving the apartment block, or down at your ski-school of choice (we used Prosneige again) without any need for "pole-ing" or walking on the pistes; in short, you couldn't get better access to or from the pistes in any hotel in the resort as far as we could tell.

We would certainly book this accommodation again.

We stayed here for a weeks skiing as a family. Our apartment was well equipped and comfortable. We were plagued by illness so spent quite a bit of time in the apartment. We were able to do this quite easily and pleasurably. We stayed in a room at the end of a corridor, where it was quiet. The staff were friendly and when we found out that we had a chipped plate, and they replaced it with a smile and no questions if we had broken it. The beds were comfortable but annoyingly there were sheets instead of a duvet. The main selling point of the apartments is the excellent location on the side of the slopes. The ski lockers are easy to use and there are seats that you can sit on in both the boot and ski rooms to put your boots on. It was simple to ski in and ski out, with some major lifts within a minutes ski away. The Roc ESF ski school was really close, a button tow away, and we could see the private lessons meeting point from our window. We could also see the Montana ESF ski school. If you want access and good facilities, you should definitely come here.

Room Tip: Rooms on the end of corridors on the -1 and -2 floors are quiet and comfortable. Get one facing out...

Hotel is not well maintained, no fire alarm, no smoke detectors, lack of fire extinguishers, unclean bathrooms, unclean kitchen utensils and not all bedding washed between guests! Self catering with not even a kettle!! Oh and treated like a criminal at check-in!! €300 deposit in case I was tempted to steal some piece of sh** worth 10p in a second hand shop, is a joke! Come on Tompson, get a grip with the quality of your accommodation!! Come on Tourotel, you've got a fab location yet really not making the best of it. I would never stay here again or recommend it unless totally refurbed.

We stayed in one of Tourotels studio apartments for one week, snowboarding in Val Thorens. The apartment was just about as small as two people could get by without annoying each other, but in our experience thats normal for france, and you dont come to Val Thorens to sit in your room for long anyway!

It didnt have beds as such, just 2 sofas you could sleep on. The kitchenette had a fridge, a microwave, and two hob rings, though again, absolutely no space.

You will have to take an inventory of every last item in the room on your first day. Staff are friendly and spoke good english. There is wifi in reception, but you will find that there are usually 15 other people hanging around there online, so its fairly slow. Check-out is at 10am, with nowhere to leave bags.

The building is "ski-in, ski-out", and only 5 minutes walk to shops/restaurants etc.

Most people will find this expensive compared to accommodation elsewhere in european resorts, but like everything here the premium has to do with it being the french alps, and Val Tho in particular.
