Stayed at Les Glaciers for a weekend ski trip in January 2014 with a couple of mates. Location excellent, at one end of the main street, close to the ski bus stop (the main ski lift is a half km out of town). Service very friendly and helpful. Simple but good breakfast. Comfortable bar (no lounge). Clean and comfortable room. Some noise at night from the main road. A small indoor pool and a larger heated outdoor one which, although covered, is really too cold to use in winter.
Samoens is fairly quiet, especially out of peak season, and probably wouldn't be a good choice for anyone still into serious apres ski. We arrived at 10.30 after an evening flight and it was difficult to find anywhere to eat. If nightlife isn't a concern however I think it's a great base. Pretty town with some nice bars and restaurants.
First time I'd gone to the Grand Massif ski area and I'd go there again. It's big enough to be varied and interesting. Possibly a little tame for really good skiers but plenty to offer intermediates.
