“Lovely relaxing stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2012

We have just returned from a relaxing 4 days spent with Robert and Caroline in Chalet Brio. The setting is outside the main Samoens village which suited us fine as we were quite content with the company in the chalet and we didn't need any night life. Robert drove us to the local ski lift and picked us up after a full day's skiing - great personal service.

The ski area is wonderful and we covered miles and miles every day over the whole Grand Massif area which includes Flaine. The weather was sunny and bright and the snow gorgeous!

Room Tip: The beds were very narrow in the downstairs twin.

We have just returned home after the most wonderful skiing holiday at Chalet Brio. From start to finish everything was great. We felt very welcome from the moment we stepped through the door. We have been to many Chalets in the past but this has been the best by far. The food was really lovely and I was catered for with wonderful meals, made especially, because I am a vegetarian.
Caroline and Robert, the owners, could not have done more to help us, they told us where to get ski passes, took us to the pass shop. Told us where they had a discount with ski hire shop, it all was very easy, so we were on the slopes with no hiccups. The skiing is incredible, loads for all levels and amazing scenery. When back at the Chalet there is a hot tub which I have never had before and this was brilliant, no muscle aches in the morning and great to be outside in the hot water whilst under the mountains and stars. The views from the Chalet are second to none, so when you wake for breakfast you have the most magical view while you are eating.
I would definitely return to the Chalet Brio and look forward to doing so in the future. Thanks for a marvellous holiday.

Chalet Brio is a lovely chalet in a hamlet 2-3 miles from Samoens, which exceeded our expectations in skiing and I've mtb's in the summer. You are dependent on being driven around unless you have your own transport (which we were).

Unfortunately we went for fours days when one of the owners wanted our business (or money!) and the other clearly didn't .. we sensed this confict through our visit and it also became clear the owners (in their 60's) didn't really want to be running a chalet any longer. They mentioned pricing a booking to turn off a customer .. and were suprised when the booking still came in.

Some aspects were fine but the real issue was their meanness in hospitality, examples are:
- the low price of the food. Quantity and cooking were fine but in four days we had sausages (night one), a chicken leg (night two), they decided to have night three off (er, we payed for a catered 4 day break) and then duck (ok) (night four). the starters were of similar quality.
- Only drinks offered were caraffes of white/red wines. No choice, no variation and we had to pay extra for a pre-dinner gin/tonic.
- Comments like 'we live off the customers scraps'.

I hope our experience was a one-off, and that this review is a wake-up call for the owners and they provide the catered chalet service customers expect and pay for. Otherwise I suggest they sell up (which I think is what is really wanted).

We've stayed in another catered chalet in Samoens (superb hospitality) and I recommend the area.

We have read Jim's review and have thought carefully about what he says. We.are extremely sorry he went home disappointed; we work very hard to make sure our guests enjoy their stay with us and are encouraged by their appreciative comments. On this occasion we were clearly unsuccessful.

We may have been looking a bit tired straight after a busy half term week but we are several years short of being a 'couple in their sixties' and have no intention of taking his advice and selling up!

Caroline adds - Im sorry Jim didn't enjoy the ham and sausage casserole, the sausages are a speciality from a local butcher and chicken legs are traditionally used in a coq au vin recipe. I agree with him about the duck though, it wasn't as good as it should have been on that instance and I've improved it since.

We just enjoyed a lovely relaxing long weekend at Chalet Brio (end of Feb 2012). Robert and Caroline were wonderful hosts. They took the trouble to ensure that we had everything we needed to make our snowboarding trip easy and great fun. They made good recommendations on equipment hire; took us to the slopes; and supplied cards that gave us discounts on ski passes. They also made good suggestions for ski runs and restaurants. They even took is to see a Queen cover band play in the community centre - random but brilliant! Robert and Caroline are both extremely friendly and have a lovely calm manner which relaxes you the moment you arrive, and their food (made up of hearty brekkie porridge, afternoon cake and an assortment of 3-course dinners) is fab too!

The chalet itself has large bedrooms and very comfortable beds and pillows. It is in a very quiet hamlet so ideal for us as a couple that wanted to snowboard during the day and chill out in the evening (chat with other guests / sit in the hot tub / play on the Wii!) but perhaps not ideal if you're keen on living the Meribel/ Val D'isre nightlife; Samoen still has a few bars though for après ski. The pistes have plenty of blue and red runs so good for beginner/intermediate skiers and boarders (though boarders be warned that a few blues are flat so you may be walking a bit!). It is a popular resort with French holidaymakers so it is excellent value for money when compared to the better known resorts. We ate lunch at the bottom of the Marvel green run (beer and large lunch each) for €10 a head.

We would def recommend this chalet for anyone looking for a hospitable and relaxing stay.

We stayed as part of a group of 12 celebrating our friends 50th birthday for a long weekend and it was the perfect chalet for such an event. Robert and Caroline looked after us very well and the food was truly wonderful - certainly a cut above anything we expected. Lovely comfortable rooms with cozy underfloor heating made for a very relaxing stay and sitting in the hot tub at the end of a long day on the slopes was a real bonus. Having never been to Morillon or Samoens before, we were very impressed overall with the area and picturesque skiing and we fully intend to come back. We would definitely stay at Chalet Brio again - highly recommended.

Second stay for a short visit to the ski slopes. Great food, accomodation and hospitality (again). The view from the dining area over the valley is just breathtaking. Robert and Caroline made us feel like an extension of their family in the run up to Christmas. Will be back again soon! Andy, Harry & Jack

Chalet Brio is extremely modern & has all the home comforts you would expect. The food was excellent. The staff & owners are very helpful, knowledgeable & very friendly.

Situated close to 3 main lifts that get you to the open ski areas of Samoens & Morillion which also link to Les Carroz, Flaine & Sixt.

The relaxed atmosphere is exactly what you need from a catered chalet when on a snow sports holiday.

The christmas dinner was perfect for a family Christmas Holiday.

Room Tip: The rooms on the top floor are of excellent size.
