“Stunning views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

We stayed here because we were doing the Alpe D'Huez triathlon in July, and we would have probably stayed in Alpe D'Huez itself had we known how windy the roads up and down the mountains were going to be - we were up and down a LOT!
The hotel itself was good - reception were very helpful in trying to help us get one of the bikes fixed, breakfast was lovely with stunning views over the alps, and the dinner in restaurant was also really nice, with enough carbs to keep us happy.
The room itself might have needed a bit of an update - this is the only 4 star hotel we stayed in during our trip, but the decor of all of the other 3 star hotels put this to shame. However, when used as a base for skiing in the winter I can see why basic decor is fine, as you spend little time in the room.
Would consider coming back if we were skiing in the alps next year.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013

This hotel was booked as a stop-over from our way back from Nice driving through the National Park Mercantour (would recommend doing this) towards Grenoble. Never stayed in a ski-resort in the Summer months so this was a first and didn’t know what to expect. First of all we have been driving through Mercantour with a pleasant 32-34 degrees and arriving at Les Deux Alpes (at 1800m) this went down to around 17 degrees.

The Mercure was booked due to its 4 star rating. There was enough parking and at arrival we received a good welcome at reception. Check-in went smoothly and was assured that both breakfast and dinner was included (this was available for an extra 10 UK Pounds for two people when booked). We also got free wi-fi which was a bonus.

The first impression of the room is simple – perhaps not 4 star – but good enough for a ski resort. There were 4 single beds in our room, bathroom and separate toilet. Strange to sit outside on the balcony looking out on the Alps with a jumper on – two hours ago you had the roof down in the car enjoying the sunshine…

At dinner there was a wide range of food available including a good selection of deserts. This was the same for breakfast. I did have the feeling that certain food was put out and ‘left’. So if you arrive somewhat late for dinner or breakfast you might encounter some ‘coldish’ food items – it happened at breakfast to my fried eggs!

Didn’t use the leisure activities but there was a group of Americans who came skiing on the glacier! Also a good base for those interested in cycling (which seems a popular sport in the south of France) – the road leading to the village – going up the mountain - would be excellent!

If I was in to skiing or cycling in the Summer months I would come back to this hotel despite the fact that it is a ‘strange’ sight to see green skiing slopes rather than white ones but I would definitely come back to this hotel in the Winter months…

Room Tip: I stayed on the 6th floor with views of the Alps and the village.

We had a freshle renovated room on the seventh floor with a view on the ski resort. Also the rooms on the other side give good views on the Alps.
The room is spacious, even for two parents and two children. We just stayed one night, so it wasn't an issue for us, but I can imagine that when you stay there a week in winter, there is a little too few storage space for clothing.
Breakfast was ok. Free wifi.
Negative for longer stay: the pool is not free.

The best part about this trip was how welcoming, helpful and attentive the staff was to us. From checkin, breakfast, ski recommendations, the bar staff & checkout was by far the easiest part of our trip. So welcoming!

Pros:
Staff.
Nice location, lots of variety of ski lifts for all ages and stages.
Wonderful breakfast selection, something for everyone.
Buffet dinner had a lovely selection too.
Rooms are fine, nothing special, but clean & comfortable. The toilet is in a separate room and neither bathroom or toilet room have fans, but this is fairly normal in France.
The drive there is awesome.

Cons:
Crowded slopes! We thought we were going after the EU vacation rush, but it was still very busy.
The bar was filled with unsupervised children. We actually asked the bar staff if we were in the right bar... After feeling like the biggest creepers on the planet we just ordered drinks and took them to our room.
THE ELEVATORS. Hokay, were to begin. After check in, we waited in line for the elevators with our luggage. Once it was eventually our turn we piled in with our bags followed by as many people could humanly fit. It was ridiculous. Then, because there is such a long line, folk press the up button before the elevator has left, so the doors bing back open. Its funny the first time... We found stairs that allow you to go down from your floor but are locked from the inside so you can not take them to go back up to your room. We did not find a staircase that you could go both up & down. So every time we wanted to go up to our room we waited in line, got crammed in, and had the doors bing open. Kind of funny now...

I think that this hotel is an excellent place for families, has almost a resort type feel to it with lots to do for little ones. But, maybe not the best for couples, or anyone who doesn't enjoy lots and lots of children.
