“Petit Prince Alpe d'Huez”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

I got a late deal and all I wanted was snow that had come down little did I know I had found a little gem. Lets get rid of the downsides. Last hotel on the mountain so quite isolated but still only seven minutes from centre. The bathroom could have have been warmer. The food was quite small portions. Would say all of these comments are marginal and subjective.

Try and avoid the lowest floor as the dining room is above you so can get noisy first thing in the morning but you are there to ski so presumably it wont bother you as you will be up anyway.

Now the upsides near to slpopes you walk about 50 meters to get on a 100 meter run to a chair lift which takes you to the top of Signal run and in turn gives access to everywhere. Great.

Staff VERY friendly and very cooperative to meet any of your requests, beds great may be on the small side for some people.

For the first four days the Hotel staff give free guides round mountain with a couple of different levels. Great guiding as well.

Would I reccomend this hotel, most certainly. I think you can book direct through Langley hotel or as I did went through Crystal (Aka Tui)

Room Tip: Try and avoid the lowest floor as the dining room is above you so can get noisy first thing in the m...

We have just returned from our New Year Trip - this is a fantastic hotel, offering a really relaxing atmosphere and has great service. If you and your children can ski it is a short walk to a very short run that gets you to a chair lift, this takes you up to an easy blue run that gets you to the ski school meeting point. The meals are 3 courses, gourmet style, so if your favourite meal is Macdonalds its probably not for you, the kids were offered a good alternative if they didn't like the adult choice. Hotel is very warm (you just need to turn your radiator on/up in your room) and plenty of hot water. Breakfast is buffet style, my only criticism is no French pastries were on offer.
Service from the young Swedish Team was excellent. Bar prices are a bit expensive but there was a happy hour at 4pm. Will definitely be staying again.

Room Tip: I think all had balconies so don't spend extra when offered this as an option.

We booked the Petit Prince for Xmas on the strength of the great reviews, and I'm pleased to say we weren't disappointed. We have skied many times, but our friends were beginners, so we had some concern that they wouldn't enjoy the skiing, although obviously they did!

We booked with Crystal who were pretty good. We were surprised to get a call from Pip our rep before we left the UK to check all was OK. Pip and the Crystal team were all very friendly and helpful and the ski guiding they offered for the first couple of days was useful to help us get to know the mountains.

We thought the hotel was even better than the photos in the brochure. The lounge was full of comfy sofas and a roaring log fire which made it far too easy to do very little of an evening. We had a family room which was a really large room with a double bed and trendy bunks with a larger bed on the bottom. Perfect for older kids / teenagers. All the furnishings were modern and tasteful and the showers were great, although a bath would have been nice.

The food was well prepared and always nice quality and the Swedish staff were universally friendly and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful with hot and cold options, juices, cereals etc. Dinner was 3 courses, no choice but all freshly prepared. We had teenagers In our party who were happy to eat most of the food they were offered, although my husband felt portions could have been a little larger!

As it was Xmas the hotel laid on a Xmas eve celebration Swedish style, and Xmas day British style which was all very nicely done. We also watched a lovely torch light decent on Xmas eve by the ski instructors which was a bit of fun and very memorable

Skiing was great. Snow conditions were as good as you get. With a chair lift to the left of the hotel it's just about ski in / ski out. For beginners it's best to take a right and walk up to the lifts that take you directly to the nursery slopes. By the end of the week you'll be able to ski back

All in all a lovely break. Xmas in the alps was wonderful and the hotel and staff were great. I would thoroughly recommend the hotel and staff for a lovely ski break.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a balcony. The view is wonderful

We have just returned from a fabulous stay at The Petit Prince. It is owned by a Swedish company, Langleys, and there were far more Swedish guests than British. We booked as part of a package through Crystal holidays.
The bedrooms were not large but were extremely comfortable, warm, spotlessly clean and had masses of hooks to hang jackets, salopettes etc as well as drawers and shelves. The bathroom was a modern wetroom with a huge shower, and copious amounts of hot water.
There is a large bar / lounge with a roaring log fire and plenty of sofas and chairs as well as beanbags. It was funky /retro 1960s, and very comfortable for apres ski drinks. Prices charged were par for the course for a ski resort.
We were extremely impressed by the quality of food. The breakfast buffet has an excellent choice, and the staff work hard to continually top up all dishes. The evening meal was a set three courses, but we were asked if we were happy with what was on offer, and if not, alternative dishes were provided. The food was beautifully presented and very interesting and varied. It had a strong Swedish influence.
Location wise, this hotel is excellent. There is a very short walk to the slopes, and a 15 second ski to the nearest lift, which takes you to the top of the resort. the skiing here is fab.
I would highly recommend this hotel.

After seeing the good reviews I was expecting a lot. Rooms cold as heating not working, water ran out in afternoons, food service was terrible. Not organised at all. Food was fair but no choice. Drinks are expensive. £6 a pint and don't bother with shorts. All in all not what I expected. Will not return. Beware those who are coming.

Stayed here in March 2012. I'm not going to write much other than to say:
Food - excellent, way beyond what I was expecting
Staff - friendly, courteous, helpful and welcoming
Hotel - clean, comfortable, refurbished and looking great
Location and view - superb
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and urge you to book this place if you are travelling to Alpe D'huez.

Our room was great. The recent refurbishment seems to have been well-thought through, with multiple hooks and "pouches" for ski jackets, gloves, helmets, etc, which were great space savers. The walk-in shower was very good, although the bathroom was a little hot and could have done with better ventilation. The room was pleasantly decorated and the walls seemed to have resisted any damage since the refurb. Our room had a great view of the mountains.

The young Swedish staff were very friendly. Breakfast was simple (toasted and boiled eggs apart, no cooked options, not much choice of breakfast cereal) but good. Evening meals were generally of a high quality. The chef was clearly trying to be inventive, particularly with starters, which were uniformly well-presented. The house wines were disappointing and over-priced at €4.50 a glass. There was a large Swedish party when we stayed who seemed to get more attentive service.

A few quibbles apart, Le Petit Orince was a great place to stay. The bus to the slopes stops right outside the hotel every 20 minutes.
