This concept is a marketing trick to describe the ski area, which is indeed nice. However, it bears with it quite a few drawbacks that you may endure during the days you are not skiing or outside ski hours.
Most important one is that this ski station is a nightmare for pedestrians, families with small kids or babies. Impossible to walk safely, no slow speed limit, no speed control. Only few pedestrian walkways used by cars to park, or floor indications all wiped out. Even 3 days after snowing, pedestrians still strive not to walk on snow or ice while cars spray them gently upon speed driving. BTW, not cars from UK or German tourists ... cars from shop keepers or local community services !
Shortly speaking, do not come there if you do not plan to ski 100% of the time.
In relation to skying, this area is up to speed with classic standards, super view from 3rd Tronçon, variety of difficulty levels, and ski machinists rather friendly in general.

Alpe d’Huez is renowned as a resort which has something to offer for everyone.
Whether you stay in the upper part of the village or the lower part, there are lifts nearby to join the main system as well as ‘navettes’ (ski shuttle buses) running constantly throughout the day and with a more limited timetable in the evenings. The ‘telecentre’ departing from the Tourist Office is a ‘bucket lift’ which is free of charge for all, no lift pass required so ideal for non- skiers.
Non skiers are indeed very well catered for .There is a wonderful Sports Centre with numerous activities : indoor swimming pool. climbing wall, tennis, dance studios ,and squash just to name a few. In addition the outdoor heated pool and the ice skating rink, often hosting hockey matches, are situated in the centre of the resort.
The ‘pedestrian’ pass allows non skiers to use certain lifts giving access to picturesque walking trails and mountain restaurants. And a trip to the Pic Blanc glacier is a must!
.Children are well catered for, with a brand new Ski school chalet especially adapted for them and there are also 2 creches for the younger children, allowing parents to ski knowing that they are in good hands.
We do hope that you will revisit our resort in the near future .
