“You get what you pay for... and more”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2014

lovely location in the hills with sea view and close to the cosy town la croix valmer.
The rooms are a bit outdated, but you get what you pay for. You can drink a few cocktails and more with your saved money. Its a perfect place to crash after a bussy day nothing more but thats al you need in this area.
Its a nice pre season vacation good for cycling, running, hiking and of course beach and cocktails. If you plan a visit to st-tropez on a market day you can rent a scooter in la croix valmer
or prepare yourself for a big traffic jam.
At the first bakery in la croix valmer you find perfect french croissants its worth the +-1 km ride every morning :)

This place is more a hostel than a hotel or residence. Very low quality of the structure, NO AIR CONDITION. Rooms are original from the 70's. Very noisy as you can hear people in the other rooms as if they were in your own room. Would not recommend to anyoneand would never return.

I stayed at Grand Cap in June/July 2012 while traveling with a tour group for a music festival. I encourage everyone to read up on the property and understand that it is not a hotel, but a "vacation residence." There is no daily cleaning service, and they charge you for everything. 4€ for fresh towels. 4.5€ for use of the one washing machine, and 4.5€ more for the dryer, but you're better off hanging the clothes out to dry because the dryer doesn't work at all.

As an American, I realize that air conditioning in Europe isn't quite the same as it is in the States, but at Grand Cap there isn't any at all. Ventilation is unacceptably poor, with some rooms having only the sliding glass entry door for ventilation of any kind. Guests in rooms with an adjacent window will quickly find that its placement directly over the bed means it can't be left open while you're sleeping, unless you want to hit your head when you sit up! (Unlike many European windows, it didn't offer the tilt-in feature for a bit of air.) Sleeping was nearly impossible, until we moved our beds right in front of the door and slept with it wide open for a nice breeze.

High speed wireless Internet is a misnomer at best. Speeds were never high, and most guest rooms don't receive the signal at all. If I hung off my balcony, I could get a single bar on my iPad; for any reliability at all, I had to go to the lobby. Even there, with more than two people online at the same time, the connection ground to a near halt.

The front desk staff were charming and friendly, as were the staff in the dining room. Most spoke little to no English, but they went out of their way to communicate. Dinners were impressive, with a variety of fish and meats on the menu, but vegetarians and pickier eaters would be likely to go hungry. Lunches were wildly overpriced (18.50€ for a cheeseburger? No thanks.), and breakfasts were boring after 2-3 days (read: the spread was exactly the same for the 8 days I had breakfast there, right down to the fruit available and the yogurt flavors).

The property is a 15-20 minute walk from the center of town, and the shuttle bus service provided by the village is unreliable at best. (It may have been the only thing in the country that ran ahead of schedule, when it ran at all.)

In short, I wouldn't recommend this spot to most travelers. Unless you're really pinching pennies, you can do better for your euros elsewhere.

The number one reason to stay here is the price because St Tropez is very expensive. The room was decent for the price, but the location is not good. Grand Cap is about a 15 minute drive away from St Tropez and there is very little access to buses or cabs, so if you don't have your own car, forget it, you are stuck! Also, Grand Cap doesn't provide clean towels, (unless you pay 4 euro), or toiletries. Also, you are expected to clean the furnished apartment when you leave, or pay 42 euro. The front desk closes at 10:30pm, so if you arrive after that, you have to have a cell phone to contact somone to hand you the keys. Additionally, our shower flooded twice and there wasn't any 24 hour assistance. Finally, the staff speak very limited English.
