We just returned yesterday from a week at La Garrigue in Cassis. The setting is lovely, peaceful but not too isolated, the village and harbour are a short walk, albeit the hill is a bit of a climb on the way home. The views from the pool and rear terraces are really special, looking out over a calanque and every evening we happily watched the sun set over the opposite side of the canyon.
We stayed in the gite, called La Romarin and for a family of three, we were very comfortable indeed. Not huge, but somehow had all the space and amenities we needed. In fact, we've never been happier to stay in as much as we did - breakfast, lunch and dinner on the terrace most days were universally preferred to eating out. We enjoyed the house breakfast on the first and last days of our stay, so for those going for the chambres d'Hotes option, rest assured it's excellent.
And then there are the people; the owner, Sylvie was incredibly hospitable and she is a genuinely warm and funny person. I've never met anyone in hospitality more helpful and considerate as she is. The same can be said of all of her staff and her lovely daughter, Clemence, who happily played with our daughter. This they all managed without ever being intrusive or pushy, just devoted to making their guests' stay as wonderful as possible. The positive attitude seemed to rub off on the guests, too; maybe we were lucky but friendly chats around the pool with other guests were commonplace, and always a nod or greeting.
We can't praise Sylvie and her team highly enough, or the accommodation. We'll definitley be heading back to La Garrigue next year.
Rear facing rooms and the gite or studio are ideally situated for views, but the whole house is love...
