There are very few restaurants that lie directly on the banks of the Charente river and La Table du Maroc is one in a particularly lovely setting. My wife and I were therefore disappointed that our wedding anniversary fell on a day when it had rained heavily in the morning (the first rain for weeks!) and the restaurant garden was therefore closed to diners. Instead we had to sit inside a conservatory-style extension to the main restaurant which lacked any kind of charm or comfort. We have never been to Morocco but had enjoyed Moroccan cuisine many years previously and thought it was time to try it again. The food we ordered was copious and for the most part tasty but lacked any real finesse and we both found the pastry dessert dry and generally disappointing. If you have a real yen for Moroccan food and don't mind having it served on heavy and chipped crockery then this is the place for you. However, I think the main selling point for this restaurant is that it offers a truly beautiful setting in which to dine - when the sun is shining. We shall probably revisit this restaurant one day when the weather is fine but it won't be for the food alone. The staff were extremely courteous and friendly and provide another reason to go back.
