This is a typical budget French hotel. You're not paying for luxury so don't expect it. The bedrrom was dated, the bed was comfortable but the shower was in need of a makeover to say the least.. There was a balcony with our room which overlooked the port which is quite nice if you like that sort of thing.
Having travelled back from Paris this was a good convenient base to wake up in the morning, do a bit of shopping & then catch the ferry back to the UK. I paid 38 euros for 2 people for one night. - Bargain.
Would I stay here again. .. No, only because my wife is fussy regarding the shower / toilet .
There is a large car park opposite the hotel ,not sure if there is a charge as I parked one street away opposite Sea France shop. - 1 minute walk.

The room was pokey to say the least. And very noisy as it overlooked the back of the kitchens where all the air conditioners and chillers were. The double glazing worked OK though. The shower was tremendously powerful.
The restaurant was very classy. Atttentive and knowledgeable waiters and delicious food. Not cheap but worth it for a special occasion.

For the amount you are paying for a night in this hotel there is nothing wrong with it. You get a room with ensuite bathroom but while basic it is clean. The hotel is in a good location about 10 minutes walk from the beach, 20 minutes into Calais centre and a 5 minute drive (if that) from the port. Staff are friendly and there is a restaurant and breakfast room within. If you say you are having breakfast at check in the maid makes sure you are up and out for breakfast even though they do not speak English! The breakfast room was nice just a shame its view is mainly of the holiday inn across the road. There is high pressure in the shower main but I found just running the tap on the sink for 5-10 seconds allowed the pressure to drop enough to run the shower. There is secure parking at the hotel although across the road there is a large space for parking although currently this is hosting a circus so I am not sure as to whether there is much room left for parking.

Hotel expensive cost for two adults and one child 83€ for a second rate badly decorated small really very very noisy room with tiny washroom/toilet - typical old shower and loo - and just still in low season too. Restaurant made up for this, with reasonable food, great value and brilliant staff. Would definately go back to the restaurant, shame about the hotel as it is convenient for anyone using the restaurant.

Poor room, grubby, door banged all night in concert with some of the other numerous but unknown events elsewhwere in the hotel, no en-suite toilet but by far the most significant drawback was the noise from the adjacent bars that persisted until 0600. Service was adequate, but advise on parking was dismissive and half-hearted. Perhaps we expected more for our 80Euros, but we were dissapopinted and left tired and unrefreshed; I would not recommend this hotel at any price.

Booked as pretty much the cheapest place we could find in the centre of Calais, the initial impession was not good as despite the claims to be no smoking (and French law), the room stunk of cigrettes and stale smoke. Opening the windows did not help much as the smell seemed to be ingrained in the furnishings making us think that it maybe wasn't just the previous occupant who had been smoking.

The puchase of a can of deodoriser and prolonged opening of the French Doors helped clear the smell but it is my overriding memory of the hotel.

The bathroom as mentioned by a previous review is quite comedy, there isn't room to swing a mouse (never mind a rat or a cat!). The shower was tiny and you are constantly attacked by the shower curtain although the shower itself was good with plenty of hot water.

The one lady staff member we met was friendly and seemed to run reception and the breakfast room. I would advise to skip breakfast, when you have paid around £50 per night for the room, £6 per person per night for continental breakfast is a bit expensive.

The location is great, there is a large car/lorry park opposite and you are just minutes from the ferry port. The centre of town is easily avoided in the car and there are many restaurants, cafes and bars within a few seconds of the front door.

Had a perfectly adequate room for 4 people, 2 double beds in an indian themed room with balcony and the tiniest en-suite i ever saw, but really good shower!!. Basic, cheap, and fine for a night or two, only saw man on reception as we didn't have breakfast, and he was very pleasant.

  • Liked — location, in town centre and near port.
  • Disliked — tiny en-suite, but ok for short stay
