“Friendly and comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014

Booked for one night before we travelled further into France. The staff speak English if you want. It is an old hotel that had been refurbished in the 1940's. The rooms are all different giving it a boutique style feel. There was a large amount of antique furniture in the halls giving a lived in feel to the hotel. Beds and rooms were comfortable and clean. Breakfast was plentiful and surprisingly there was bacon sausage and egg available too.
Disappointingly the restaurant was not open during our visit, so we had to go into Calais to eat. Not a problem as there are lots of restaurants to choose from.
We returned from the meal and went into the bar and had a nightcap. The dog Lol was very happy to see us and wanted to play.
One of the best sights in the hotel are the wash hand basins outside the washrooms. They are stunning.
Would happily stay here again.

We have stayed here many times, it is comfortable and very clean, we love it and they still have a dog, anyone who has stopped here will know what I mean, it is close to restaurants and bars and the eurotunnel is only 10 minutes away

We have stayed before and would not stay elsewhere in Calais. Quirky and full of character the rooms are not high spec but are comfortable. Breakfast very good. No restaurant open for room service or an evening meal, but we required neither. Small bar which we did not use. Some nice restaurants in easy walking distance and a good base for travel into Belgium or the Opal Coast.

The first impression that you have of this hotel is extremely worrying as the front door and outside approaches are in dire need of some TLC. Once you have overcome the first sight of the hotel it becomes a very friendly and comfortable place that serves an A1 breakfast and offers tea making facilities in the rooms

My wife and I stayed here for one night for the pre Christmas stock up and having read other reviews on this site picked this hotel.
Bad points are it is full of tat, if you take the bar for instance the leather sofas have great big cracks and tears in them. The tat in the hallway gets in the way and looks dirty. The other issue is we were pointed in the general direction of our room down a dark corridor where we could not find the light switch.
Good points are if you want a goods night sleep with a nice shower in the morning in the centre of Calais then this is exactly what you get. We paid for the secure overnight parking but there is really no need as the parking outside is free.
It's not a bad hotel but for cost I would rather do a budget chain near Dover and save my money for the shopping the next day

We stayed here on Valentine's night. Check in was quick and easy. Staff speak far better english than i do french but they let me try! Room was very comfortable, lovely french style and plenty of space. Fabulous breakfast, so much choice and very well stocked even though the hotel was very busy. there's a lovely little bar and you must meet the dog Lol. he is so friendly, i would guess he is young as he wants to play. We ate in the hotel restaurant La Diligence which we luckily booked in advance or else we would not have got a table. excellent quality food and service. Definitely recommend both the hotel and the restaurant.
