“Excellent overnight stop hotel in centre of Calais”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

We usually stay in an Ibis, as we just want a bed. However, we had decided to take our time and get a mid morning ferry back to the UK. The hotel is very central, with plenty of parking immediately outside. They also have six secure parking places, so book early if you have stuff in your car as Calais is not the safest place to leave anything in a car overnight, due to the large number of potential illegal immigrants roaming the streets. We had a room on the front on the first floor. A lobby with bathroom and separate toilet off. Bathroom was immaculate and recently refurbished. The bedroom had proper antique furniture, i.e. no formica in sight, a reallyl comfortable bed with pristine cotton bedlinen. Lots of embossed monogrammed towels too. A tea/coffee tray with kettle, which is unusual in France. The television also had British tv channels too and not just BBC World. The reception staff, both in the evening and next morning were charming and spoke good English. They charge for WiFi, but there is a computer in the reception area which is free for guests to use. All in all, a very nice hotel and we would definitely stay there again. Its only a five minute walk to the main streets where there are lots of restaurants. Reception gave us a map. We ate at the De La Mer, a fish restaurant and it was superb.

Room Tip: Choose a Superior Room for a big bathroom and more space.

This is the 3rd time we've stopped here going to & from the Continent. Don't be misled by the outside of this hotel when you arrive, push through the front door & find yourself in old France ! Rooms are clean & quiet, especially useful if you have just had long haul up from somewhere south ( or even east or west! ). They have an underground garage for your car if you don't like leaving it on the street, a few euro's extra but worth it for peace of mind. The bar is very good & the restaurant, which is independently run, offers very good & beautifully presented meals. Other cafe's & restaurants available close by
if required.

We only had one night here prior to our ferry crossing back to the uk. Sat nav took us right to the door which we were able to thankfully park right outside of as we dont tend to travel lightly..

The decor in the hotel is wonderfully quirky, its spotlessly clean, and the room, which was on the first floor, was easy to find and in a quiet part of the hotel.

The room itself had everything we needed, a very comfortable bed, great pillows, and a soft duvet. We had a telly which showed BBC1, great for the wife as strictly come dancing was just starting as we arrived...

Bathroom had a bath and an mixer tap shower, and loads of hot water. Whilst H enjoyed strictly I went down the bar (which I guess could be called in the old days a snug) and enjoyed a couple of beers and the free wifi, and in my case it was free not charged for as mentioned in another review.

We didnt eat in the restraunt as it was fully booked with another party of guests, probably wouldnt have gone there anyway as we like to explore.

Breakfast in the conservatory was plentifull, even down to bacon, scrambled egg and sausages, with the usual continental offering if you needed it.

All in all I would definately come back here, staff were friendly and the measure in my night cap was massive..

We stay here whenever we need a stopover in Calais as we live a day North from Dover. Reasonable value for money in a lovely old hotel. Close to restaurants etc (which you may need as its own restaurant closing times are eclectic to say the least and its closed July.August!

Room Tip: All the ones I have stayed in have been good

I picked this hotel because of its close proximity to the centre of Calais.
It is extremely handy for all of the local bars and restaurants.
The room we were given was a twin room on the second floor at the front of the hotel, this was above a function on our first night but it didn't intrude into our room and we had a good nights sleep.
The room had a seperate bathroom and toilet, it also had room for an extra person set up on what might be called a day bed, which is what my wife used it for when enjoying a quiet read and snooze :-)
The room was well furnished and clean, the bathroom was spacious and had plenty of dispensers for washing. The only minor complaint was the shower did seem to take an age to decide when hot water was coming through.
The Breakfast room was a little strangely laid out in a conservatory, when the romm had more than a handful of people in it, someone was almost certain to be blocking access to the buffet breakfast! An interesting way to introduce yourself!

The Staff were very friendly when needed and we will probably return for another visit next year.

Room Tip: We found our second floor room at the front very comfortable.
