“Lovely lunch on a rainy day”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

The whole square area surrounding the restaurant is currently undergoing renovation - it probably looks worse that at any time since Adolf last visited BUT.......do not be put off. The Du Vignoble au Verre is a great little restaurant. The wine selection is huge and the food extremely tasty. The host (Eric) is a very nice chatty chap who couldn't do enough for us.
The combined bill for 3 of us (with beers to start with, a bottle of wine, an extra glass of wine and a brandy) came to 132 Euros - for 3 courses.
All of the other patrons were locals which is always a good sign.
A slightly larger main course portion would have pushed this up to 5 stars - but that is just being picky (and you can top up on fresh bread anyway).
Well worth a visit.

“Very fine but not completely accomplished yet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Took dinner last week which was my third visit. Generally enjoyable and, although I imply no criticism, I continue to see Du Vignoble au Verre as slightly more focussed on the wine lover than the foodie. My 31 Euro menu was OK but not especially outstanding in any area and the desserts, in particular, remain uninteresting. In fairness my partner had good things to say about the Boeuf. The suggestion of Terre De Poudingue as our white wine was a triumph and the Restaurant certainly offers a superb selection of undiscovered (at least for me) treasures at manageable prices - something that other Calais establishments would do well to emulate. Service, while friendly and welcoming, can get a little stretched when busy or when they entertain a "gourmet group" as was the case last week. A cushioned chair as opposed to the horribly uncomfortable ridged cane items deployed would be welcome for my ageing derriere. I will certainly continue to use the Restaurant and look forward to seeing it adapt to increased success.

“Really gorgeous little restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

What a great find in Calais. The young owner was very couteous and helpful whilst the food was top class. We ate duck, and a lamb tagine, with a very nice 2009 Macon Verze, polished off with coffee and brandy. ( Much needed because of the snow and ice outside!) Free Public parking in the square outside was easy on a Friday night, ( Place d' Armes). It was a pleasure to eat a lovely meal in comfortable surroundings, and not be rushed.

“Our kind of restuarant and a perfect anniversary lunch!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2012

Despite pouring rain and a quiet restaurant in between sell-out Christmas groups, we couldn't have felt more warmly welcomed or relaxed thanks to the gentle, professional care of our host. Main courses - fish waterzoi, a flemish treat enjoyed for the first time, and guinea fowl tagine - rich and delicious. We also appreciated the sorbet in vodka steeped in spices for a month which was presented between courses and the amazing baked maroille!
Well worth asking advice about wine choice from the extensive menu as we had the perfect Corbieres to suit our taste - and not expensive.
Very reasonable set menus and an obvious love of good food and wine which we'll be back to sample again and again now we've discovered this gem in Calais. Thank you for making our day so memorable!

“Excellent food and superb wine range”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012

A real highlight of our weekend in Calais. The restaurant was full when we went on our first night but I'm so glad we went back the second night.
The menu is full of regional dishes and cooked so well. Service is excellent and the wine range is just wonderful and very reasonably priced too. Including a glass of wine and dessert, evening meal came to just over 30 euro per person. There are cheaper options on the menu, but its most definitely a worth trying the more expensive options for a special night.
The atmosphere is very relaxed but elegant - very typical French feel to it.
I'd highly recommend anyone in Calais visit Vignoble au Verre.
