“Soaring Gothic architecture and charming village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011

Perfect day trip from Paris that gets you away from the crowds. Gothic cathedrals don't get much better than this. Built on a grand scale to house the important holy relic of the head of St. John the Baptist (which is on display if you choose to see it). The immensity of the building is awe inspiring. The soaring heights of the French Gothic design are evident in the 140 foot high vaulted ceiling, the highest of any completed Gothic cathedral. Make sure to spend as much time walking the elaborate exterior as the interior, and while the Cathedral is the star of the show leave time to enjoy a meal along the river in this charming town that is just a short walk away.

“Amazingly grotesque carvings, try to make the 10pm laser light show.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2011

The medieval carvings are really beatifully carved. Look out for the grotesque images of the damned, holding up the saints and being tormented by devils -fans of H Bosch will appreciate. Also at 10pm most nights is a synchronised sound and light show, (sounds corny but not) revealing the carvings in colour.

“Spectacular evening laser and light show”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2011

This cathedral is beautiful during the day but comes alive at night. During laser cleaning of the soot it was discovered that the amazing sculptures on the front were painted and the nightly laser show duplicates their original colors in a uniquely beautiful experience.

“Amazing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2011

We have seen far too many churches during our tour of Europe but this is the most exquisite by far.

The gothic architecture and detail combined with it's sheer size are amazing

Look for the plaques to Aussie and NZ soldiers from World War 1.

“A jaw-dropping experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2010

There are two sides of a visit to this cathedral. First, the day-light visit with a peak inside. The entrances are stunning and interesting to explore. The inside, well there is the statue of the crying angel behind the altar center - charming in all its sadness. Besides this it is an interesting visit but not more. The second thing is the absolutely jaw-dropping sound and light show! I was unprepared for what I saw and sat stunned with my mouth opened for the 15 min the show lasted (in french which I don't speak). It was followed by a english speaking show right after, and by then I had come to my sense to get some photos. So basically. Day-light cathedral 3 out of 5 grade. Sound and light show 7 out of 5 giving a solid average grade of 5. Don't miss the light show - it's a mind blower!
