I am sure if Max the Mouse, Patch the Parrott or Lily the whatever she was - were in charge of the country we would have got more euros to the pound. The current exchange rates will no doubt have a damaging effect on european holidays, and what is generally a very cheap option became a quite expensive jaunt but enjoyable jaunt to the region of Vendee.

On the whole it was an thoroughly good week, we lost one day to rain and a couple of mornings to gloomy - the local beaches are wonderful at St Jean De Monts, the coastal village at St Gilles Croix De Ville is a delight and Les Sables D'one has another marvellous beach.

The camp was welcoming, neat, well maintained and a haven for kids. Apart from a couple of young wannabee trouble makers whom I thought should have been dealt with by the camp staff the site was really well managed. The evening entertainment was poor but I think they were still learning as it was early in the season, however the childrens hour was excellent with the camp charactors Max, Patch and Lily making a nightly appearance, they also had a Fiesta Night when the childrens entertainers would look after a pre-booked group of children for an hour and half and feed them for 6 euro whilst parents could slip into the restaurent for a meal alone !

The problem is you are hit a with pshycological double whammy. You on reeling that you have lost about £ 13 compared with 2007 on every 100 Euros, which in our case with a budgetted spending money of only 600 Euros was about £ 70. That hurts - then you can't help converting everything into £'s when you are buying, so 4 Euro 60 cents for a pint of stella is a whopping £ 3.84 a pint, quickly a night out becomes £ 50 on drinks alone for a familly of four. Despite taking the hit once, you feel like you have been done over twice.

Restaurents down the road are similliar, whilst excellent food and service, 2 Pizzas, 2 Kids Menu Choices, a round of drinks - 43 Euros for lunch, ranging to upwards 70 euro for evening meal - I know it is out of Siblu and Frances hands and they cannot exactly reduce prices but it takes the edge off it,

“great family holiday - perfect for everyone”

Le Bois Masson

May 20, 2008

Recently stayed on the Siblu caravan park at the Bois de Masson. Wasn't sure what to expect as booked holiday through the Sun newspaper, but it was great !
Caravan was immaculate on arrival with a bottle of wine and a teapot and teabags waiting for us after our long drive.
The rooms aren't massive but the living area is perfect for a family of 4.
The site itself had friendly and helpful staff all spoke excellent english and the site was immaculate,
Loads to do including bike hire and playground, swimming pool and kids club.
Highly reccommend the takeaway as great value for money and the kids ate the lot !!
A really relaxing break - St Jean de Monts itself is also a good beach resort for a family but would also reccommend travelling to St Nazaire and L'Isle Noirmoutier for a taste of the surrounding area and if you like fine fish/oyster dining.

We stayed with Siblu in their top of the range 3 bed caravan. We paid a bit extra for a decking terrace and it was worth it. It also had a cover over the terrace and an area for sunbathing, our pitch was very private. The mobile home was clean, modern and new and a bottle of red wine awaited us once there on the table. Our bedroom even had its own en-suite. I could not fault the mobile home. It smelt so new.
We have 3 children ages 6, 11 and 13. They all made friends and enjoyed it lots. The older 2 joined the clubs via Siblu and made lots of friends and thought the clubs were great.
The facilities on site are good and the pool with slides are very popular. There is always a life guard but they have very strict
rules!!!!!!!
Across the road is another campsite 4* owned by Siblu and you can use their facilities. This one is a little quieter.
There is a restaurant onsite but it struggles after 8pm as it gets very busy but it was good value for money. Our fav was one called
La Scala on the road going right out of the campsite.
There are shower blocks which we did not use but they seemed clean . We used them for the laundry facilities. A full load costing roughly £3. The shower blocks had people cleaning them constantly.
There is a takeaway on site which is very reasonable. St Jean de Mont has a lovely sandy, clean beach and worth a visit. We went
back for lots of visits.
You are spoilt for choice for eating out and we had a gas BBQ which we used for lunch time.
In the evening there was a club for the kids with various acts on stage. There is a games room and a sports bar showing all the latest sports eg) football, Rugby etc.
We all came back very relaxed. There is a new motorway built now bypassing Paris so it made the journey to the Vendee much quicker and traffic free.
The only down side was the weather. Apparently regulars and staff told us we were very unlucky with the weather. It was cloudy most afternoons, saying that it did not stop our kids from going in the pool and the pool at the campsite opposite is heated. The weather was unusual but at least we missed the floods in the UK.
There is also a fun fair with rides and a circus, a forest climbing park (zip wiring etc) you need to book this for sure and next to the fun fair is a water park called Atlantic toboggan, all worth a visit. All these are within 20 mins of the camp.
We have very high standards and were impressed by Siblu and the campsite itself.

We travelled to Le Bois Masson in July 2007with Kelair Travel Ireland. We flew into Rennes which meant about a 2 and half hour drive to campsite. This was our first time camping and we didn't know what to expect. We arrived at the site at about 10.30pm and were met by Derek and Laura the Kelair couriers who were very friendly and helpful and continued to be so throughout our stay. The mobile was spotless could not fault it. The complex has a park suitable for under tens. It also has 3 pools all of which were supervised by lifeguards. The pool areas were also clean (no shoes, no food allowed) Our children aged 11, 9, and 6 loved the whole holiday. They made lots of friends at the kids clubs. Local attractions included horse riding, a water theme park and a safari park. St Jean De Monts is only five minutes away and is a busy town. Great beach and a great market on a Wednesday. I would have no hesitation in recommending this resort.

after a long journey we finally arrived at le bois masson, our first impressions we're not very promising but after a good nights sleep we would feel different. how very wrong we were. the accommodation was a lot smaller than the brochues would have us believe, our 'garden' area where we could sit out to was almost on top of the campsite road, so not only were people gawping at what you were eating or listening to your conversations but this was the only area outside of the home (so we could keep a close eye on them),that the kids could have a game of tennis, badminton etc.so every time a car went passed( which was very frequent) play had to stop. the toilet stunk so bad the first thing we did next morning was go and buy some bleach and toilet freshner. great start hey!
things just went from bad to worse. most of the staff (not all) were rude, arrogant and a just can't be bothered attitude. but we found the local french peolpe very much like that as well, very un-helpful and un- welcoming we have always been to brittany in the past and found the french very nice. until we came to the vendee. the bar and club area was ok but quite a bit pricey and the 'disco' only had what seemed like very very limited 'tunes'. the pool area was probably the best bit but didn't have very many sunbeds-not nearly enough for the size of the campsite. we also found there was no charm or character to the vendee area, and unless the sun is pelting down on you there really isn't much more to do as a family. so we can safely say that we have come home much more stressed than before we went. we will never ever be going there again we can promise you that.

Management Response

Sorry that you didn’t enjoy your stay with us. We do listen to all comments from our customers and make improvements where we can.

Most of our pitches are at least 120 m2, which is big for France and leaves lots of space for children. There are also lots of green areas and adventure playgrounds for safe play and we have very strict speed limits in force on the parc.

We’ve increased the number of sunbeds around the pool and refreshed the changing rooms. We’ve also built a new sauna and steam room.

It’s a shame that you didn’t like the Vendee, I’ve really fallen in love with the region. On rainy days (there aren’t many during the summer months), I normally recommend a visit Puy du Fou, which is an incredible olde-world theme parc.
Many thanks, Jason Selzer (parc manager)
