“Good central location, but an average hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013 via mobile

I've stayed here a few times now and they are spending money improving the public areas which was well overdue so a good trajectory. The rooms are pretty good for the 3* level they're pitching. The bathrooms and carpets needs updating but the beds are clean and comfortable. Tea, coffee and speculoos are nice to have. Rooms facing the street can be a little noisy at rush hour (so don't prepare for a lay in). Breakfast is functional and typical continental, but a good selection of fresh pastries, croissants etc. the location is excellent, right on the river in the centre of town and a 10-15 minute walk from the station with great TGV connections to Le Mans and Paris. Service is functional but polite.

The valuable asset of this hotel is its central location and adjacent to an excellent restaurant "Le Relais d'Alsace" (brasserie-style with an extensive menu and a-la-carte). Parking spaces abound nearby if you are traveling by car.
As previously commented this hotel should be rated 3-Star unless the current renovation works that should be completed by Feb.2013 propel it to 4-Star ?
Unless you have to, please avoid having breakfast there as it can be a miserable adventure considering that plenty cafés around do offer a better solution.

First the good points.....The hotel's location was excellent, the staff were great, the rooms reasonably well appointed. The bed was very comfortable if a tad firm. Bathroom was ok.

Now the reality check......Definitely more of a 3 star than 4 star hotel The smallest lift in the world common areas not comfortable; Breakfast area unappetising; terrible view from the room; the passages between rooms were pokey and dingy; cheap plastic coffee cups in the bedroom.

I would have expected a higher quality for a 4 star hotel.

However if you are having a flying visit to Laval the location is excellent - right in the centre of the town and walking distance to everywhere you need to get to. Perhaps that's why the owners of the hotel seem to be able to charge a premium for a very very average hotel.

Located in the heart of the town, close to some great bars and restaurants an the river.
Bedrooms are small and basic but clean. Hotel has underground car parking but beware this is extra and very small. Parking outside the hotel is free after 7pm at night but you mustmove your vehilce by 9am the next morning to avoid any tickets.
Rates are room only - never had breakfast so can't comment
Good place for a 1 night stop with no frills.

This Best Western is one of the best options for a stay in Laval. It is located in the City centre, within walking distance of the train station (unless you have bulky/heavy luggage). You have some convenient restaurants nearby and if you don't mind a walk you can reach the 'old town' in 15-20 minutes. The rooms are rather basic, so do not expect anything fancy and there is little to comment upon (superior rooms are reasonably spacious with an extra sofa). The room has no minibar and there is a vending machine in the lobby so you may want to get some soft drinks for the night (keeping them chilled is another issue). Front desk staff are helpful even when it proves challenging to get a taxi. During my stay the wireless went on strike and I was told nothing could be done about it as this was due to the local internet backbone. Certainly true (it was difficult to connect to other wireless spots in the city) but still a major inconvenience when you are travelling on business.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2011

Having payed 149 euros for one night in a "panoramic" room, one would not expect to be dipping into my pocket for another 9 euros for breakfast, or 5 euros for parking either. In saying that, the room was generously large with all the usual acoutrements you'd expect with nice little touches like exfoliating soap in the bathroom. Unfortunately this was countered by the terrible, tiny plastic cups that came with the complimentary coffee/tea of which there were 2 sachets of coffee and 2 tea bags, so not exactly generous. This was further exacerbated by the fact there was no bottled water in the room, but was available if you want to use the vending machine in the lobby (what is it with hotels and the pervasive vending machine these days?)

Breakfast was poor fare. The "restaurant" such as it is, is no more than a random collection of cheap tables and chairs with a basic continental breakfast offered. I didn't expect Michelen stars but what was offered was trully bad in an area just off the reception area that just felt like a school dinner hall.

The central location of the hotel is an ideal base for seeing Laval on foot and I would certainly recommend the brasserie below which specialises in seafood. One last thing, don't leave the windows open during the night, the refuse collectors emptying the street bins seemed to be having a competition on how loud they could manage it.

Room Tip: Try not to get a front facing room. Take breakfast in the brasserie immediately next door.

Quadruple glazing ensured a very quiet night. A fairly spacious room, comfortable beds; buffet continental breakfast and garage parking for a moderate sum. The staff are most pleasant.
