We stayed here in a very clean room which comfortably accomodated 5 of us (2 adults and 3 kids, ages 15, 13, and 8). The view from the room was amazing. One of the tour books said be prepared for a long walk but it was right in the center of this very small village and definitely did not take us 15 minutes to get there or to leave.
The major issue you need to know when staying here is they really expect you to arrive by 5 p.m. Despite the fact that we phoned them from Paris to tell them we would be there after 5 p.m. they kept asking us to hurry up. I don't think they were worried we wouldn't show up- I think they leave by 5 p.m. whenever possible. Anyway, we made it there at 6:30 and the majority of tourists had left but they were really anxious about our arriving so late. The girl who showed us our room was very nice despite this and we got settled in easily.
Mont St. Michel is a beautiful old village and is best experienced by sleeping on the island. We walked around the abbey then had dinner. The food is not the best here but you should be able to find something adequate. It was quiet at night and really cool. And there are very few people milling about.
The next morning, when we checked out, the village had a totally different flavor. TONS of tourists to the point that it made it difficult to walk down the cobblestone street to our car! We were really happy that we came late and left relatively early. It's the only way to see Mont St. Michel.
The hotel is excellent and very reasonably priced ($175 for the room). I would highly recommend it to anyone considering a visit!
