“Convenient and convivial with a nice restaurant, too”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

Took at rental car from Rennes and drove 1 hour to this quiet, well-run hotel that is conveniently located within the restricted area around Mont St. Michel. This is one of a cluster of hotels and restaurants located on the coast immediately adjacent to Mont St. Michel. Free parking and then could walk to Mont St. Michel (its a hike!) or take the free shuttle that runs every 10 minutes and stops in front of the hotel. The hotel was very clean and modern, and our room overlooked a quiet grassy lawn (no views of MSM. The rooms were small but comfortable with a firm bed and a bath with sink with a separate WC, which was a bit cramped. The step into the tub was a bit steep and there was no handle on the wall. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The hotel is attached to Pre Sale restaurant which had a good breakfast and an outstanding dinner. Others reviewed this place as superior to the more touristy restaurants on MSM and I would have to agree. We had a first class meal with friendly efficient service. The local oysters were fabulous and the salt marsh-raised lamb very tasty,if a little too tough. The side dishes, such as my stewed tomato and a shallot souffle, were outstanding. Clearly above the more touristy restaurants with overpriced pedestrian food.

Room Tip: Don't face the street, since there are plenty of tour bus shuttles. Count not hear anything from...

Very nice hotel in a great location, Best way to enjoy Mont St Michel, during the day it is a crowded tourist action but in the evening and morning is very quiet and the perfect location for walking. Good Wifi, one english TV channel. Plenty of parking. Several restaurant choices within 100 meters of Hotel to include a coffee/sandwich shop across the street with a nice gift shop and 7/11 like market attached. Since I was in a rental car I emailed the hotel the evening before arrival ( in english) and promptly received the code to open the gate into the village to access the hotel.
Friendly staff equipped to handle a veritable "United Nations" of a diverse tourist population.

Most of my comments about the Hotel Mercure near Mont Saint Michel would be very positive. It was clean, well-run in every respect with an excellent restaurant. The American styling was a welcome break in the middle of a trip, much appreciated.

You should be warned about the gates to Mont Saint Michel, though my experience was probably unique. I was unaware that cars can only enter Mont Saint Michel through a gate which requires a code. I did not receive a code and because the hotel had misspelled my name, they didn't recognize me as a customer and wouldn't give me a code. I had to walk the 1+Km from the gate to the hotel, get the reservation straightened out, walk back and use the code to drive to the hotel. I was charged 4.5 euros to use a code. In all fairness, it wasn't the hotel's charge but I didn't know about it.

Despite the mix-up spelling my name, the hotel staff was superior, very professional.

At nightfall, the gates are lifted and there is no code and no fee. I would plan my trip to arrive at Mont St. Michel after 6:00 if I went back.

The hotel restaurant was excellent, very professional and very clean. The wait staff reflect a high degree of professionalism and competency as well as patient with those who speak only a little French. Actually, I would say the wait staff bordered on being friendly but I don't want to insult them in any way.

The breakfast, an additional charge, offered a full breakfast including scrambled eggs and I was really missing eggs by this point.

My husband and I stayed here in April during a 3 week visit in France. Our room was large and well appointed. Lots of windows and view. We had a room service dinner that was exceptional. The location is super for a visit to Mont Saint Michele and the views of it are spectacular! You would want a room on the back of the hotels for the views. Also there are some walking trails that are very nice.

We stayed in a first floor triple room for 1 night. According to the floor plan, the triple room is as the same size the the other rooms...Nevertheless, it's big enough for the 3 of us.

The 3rd bed is a genuine one, so it's comfortable.
The bathroom is big but the toilet is pretty small. We all liked the design of the hallway door separating the bathroom+toilet from the room as the toilet door couldn't be locked or closed probably.

The location of the hotel is great. it''s right in front of the free shuttle bus station for hopping off, and cross the street is the station for getting on.

However, there are 2 main problems with this hotel.
1) The staffs:
The staff who checked us in was apparently drunk. It took him around 15 min just to find our record from his very very thin folder (Less than 20 records inside I guess). He didn't tell us where our room in but simply gave us the room number. (and gave us weird look when we asked him which floor it is on). He didn't teach us how to connect to the wifi (turned out one doesn't need the password and account to use it, as written on the login page). Nothing was mentioned about the reflective vest for night walk at Mount St. Michel. No information on tide up & down time (isn't that important? for this particular place?). Not mentioning if the welcome drink is for all 3 of us or the PLATINUM card holder only and where to drinking it. Basically nothing but the fact that there are charges for the minibar was mentioned.
We asked another staff about late check out time later. He was nice but knew nothing about the late check out policy of the loyalty card holder. Am I expecting too much for such a large chain hotel as theirs?

2) Room position
Our room was located at the first floor, window facing the tour bus car park so we couldn't let the curtain stay open or anyone could see the inside of our room. There were super bright lights shinning upon us at night too. (So sorry, no stars)
The room key was a key, with no additional locking. We could see some rooms were outside of the lobby area, i.e. anyone could break in without getting seen by the staff, not that the staff were very attentive at the counter to distinguish who are the guests anyway.
Don't bother to ask for the 2nd floor either as there is no elevator in the building...
Or maybe this place is super super safe so not much security measures are needed?

Room Tip: You could either choose a 1st floor room with not much security so the people walking by could see r...

We found the Hotel Mercure to be very comfortable and the location was very convenient. The accompanying restaurant provides an excellent breakfast, with many options and good food. Note that you need to call ahead for a gate code and that the gate is beyond the parking lot.

We stayed here in April, 2014 and found the room to be very small...the beds were lumpy and uncomfortable, however, the room was clean. The Breakfast food just okay.
I felt that the hotel was too far out of town.
