Before arriving at La Closerie it can be confusing to know what to expect because of the mixed reviews on TripAdvisor. Most of the confusion would be mainly down to there being two seperate complexes at La Closerie.
(a) Cote Casino (advertised as a 3 star appartment)
(b) Cote Port (adviertised as a 4 star appartment)
My wife and I stayed at Cote Port so can only review Cote Port, however we were both genuinely very happy with the appartment, the town Cabourg and the service of the staff. The lady on reception spoke good English and it is obvious she genuine cares about ensuring you have a happy stay. The apartments are a few hundred meters away from the reception as they have been recently built (4 years old). They are spacious and pratical and comfy. We had a really nice power shower downstairs and a standard bath upstairs. There were two double bedrooms and presumably the sofa pulls out to make a third bed (though we didnt use or check this).
The beds were not the comfiest that I have ever stayed in and their double beds are two singles pushed and held together with a double headboard. This meant you did have the hard edges down the middle though is definitely not a holiday wrecker and if that is the worst thing you come across on your holiday you know you've had a good stay.
The apartments have a spacious kitchen area which doubles up as a lounge. There is a small garden with a BBQ outside. The only thing we found missing was a kettle to make tea, though they did have a coffee maker.
Location wise, the apartment is excellent. It is about a 2 minute walk from the sea front and about a 5 minute walk from the main town center. The beaches are beautiful with a lovly long prominade to walk down for the romantic evenings. There is no litter in the area and the town center has many places to eat out. Even the smaller and relatively cheaper restaurants are of a very good standard and you can tell the French love their food as the quality if far better than that of a similar English place. If you haven't been to France before you may find their opening hours rather confusing. The town dies at lunch time for a couple of hours as well as Tuesday evenings. Honestly, you won't find a single sole walking the streets during these hours. I guess Cabourg is mainly a holiday town and will get busier during the summer holidays.
The city of Caen is not far away where you will find other cute little shops with lots of cafe's and a few museams around.
I would certainly recommend Cabourg the couples who want some quiet time together, and I would recommend La Closerie for a place to stay. My wife and I both really enjoyed our time together there and will certainly be looking to go back again in the not to distant future.
Definitely make sure you stay in Cote Port not Cote Casino.
