“Good location for WW2 iconic site visits”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 days ago NEW

Stayed at the Mercure whilst visiting Pegasus Bridge, Ranville, Merville and lots more iconic World War 2 historical sites. The hotel is located just off the motorway and is ideally situated for exploring the area. The rooms are in very good condition and have everything needed for a short stay. The staff are very helpful and keen to help. A short walk into Cabourg presents you with lots of shops and eateries as the independent restaurant next to the hotel provides lovely food but expensive. The Hippodrome did not have any events during my stay but I assume the area could be very busy if trot racing is on.

Only used room for sleeping in but it was fine with a comfy bed, balcony overlooking the racetrack. Breakfast was very nice, but for 3 days in a row didn't manage to get scrambled eggs! I liked this hotel and just 10 minutes walk from town centre. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and nice little bar area. Faults, boiling hot room!

Room Tip: get a first floor room as ground floor can be noisy

We stayed here for one night on our way to Brittany. Nice room. comfortable beds and good bathroom. Free Wifi and tea/coffee tray. Only complaint was that the room was very hot and we couldn't adjust the heating (may have been our fault). It was difficult to leave the window open as it swung and made a noise, there was no catch. It is next to the race track so it may be noisy when there are races, but it was very quiet when we stayed.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2015

Location:
The hotel location, at the entrance of Cabourg, is average. You need to walk about 15-20 minutes to reach the centre with the casino and the beach.
The lobby area is nicely decorated and very pleasant.

Rooms:
Rooms are comfortable, but for me they do not deserve the advertised 4-star rating.
The main problem is the bathroom. At first look, it seems nice but a closer examination shows that it is dated. The toilet seat is basic. Several useful toiletry items are missing.
Several of us had also a problem with the heating system. Mine was set at 17°C but the room was still too hot. Luckily I could sleep with the window open because the area is very quiet.
A mini bar is available, as well as free wifi but I found it pretty slow.

Breakfast:
At 16 euros the breakfast is expensive. However the choice is plentiful and the selection includes great items such as freshly squeezed orange juice and Nespresso coffee.

Spa:
We mainly chose this hotel for its spa facilities and we were disappointed.
You can ask for a towel at the reception. You need to walk outside a few meters because they are located in another building and a code to open the door. There is no hotel staff monitoring the facilities.
The locker rooms are small, old, and not clean. Most people leave their locker open because they do not have the required coin to close the locker door.
The sauna is so tiny that it can hardly accommodate more than 3 people. And the heated pool is not that hot.

Room Tip: The best rooms are the ones with a balcony located on the first floor and facing the hippodrome.

We visited this hotel for 3 nights as part of a Brittany Ferries short break. We could not fault it! The staff were pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. The added advantage was a covered pool (open in summer) at no extra charge > Rooms were pleasant, with comfortable beds and easily adjusted heating controls. Breakfast was excellent with what seemed like limitless choice served in a pleasant area overlooking the gardens. The restaurant was not open but there was good choice in nearby Cabourg.

This is a lovely, comfortable hotel. Our room was well furnished,a good size with a good en suite. We stayed here for a short 4day break and thoroughly enjoyed it..The breakfasts were excellent plenty of choice of cooked or continental. We ate a few times in the hotel's' restaurant, this also was very good. It's a good place to stay,Cabourg is a lovely seaside town but it is convent for viewing the Normandy Landing sites of World War Two.Lots to do and see. I would recommend this hotel without hesitation.

Room Tip: Our room was on the first floor,so only have knowledge of this. Our was fine .

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2014

We first visited this hotel earlier in the year and did not hesitate to book a return visit in October. As before, we booked an inclusive stay through Brittany Ferries.

Having a room on the ground floor, meant that we experienced a lot of noise caused by children being allowed to run backwards and forwards on the first floor. Grown up footsteps could also be heard at times. This, of course, is beyond the control of the hotel so would recommend asking for a room on the first floor to avoid the noise. Having said that, ground floor rooms are very convenient for the dining room, car park and the Bistrot 50.

We could find no fault with the very generous breakfast and all staff were very friendly and helpful.

We ate at the Bistro 50 every evening and were delighted with the food and the service. We would recommend this restaurant to anybody who stays at the Hotel. The food was as good as any we have had in France recently.

We hope to be able to visit again before too long.
