“Outstanding B and B in a lovely family home.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2012

We stayed with Caroline and Martial at their lovely family home in Boulogne in November. We were only on a short trip to France and only stayed one night. They are very hospitable, friendly, interesting and keen to help their guests with information about France and Boulogne itself. We stayed in Chambre Blanc Nez which is a large and comfortable room with a large spacious bathroom and evrything one would need is available and should you need anything else, one only has to ask and it is produced.
They recommended three restaurants to us, but only one was open (it was a Monday night that we stayed), and we had dinner in L'ilot Vert which was excellent (see review), and only a short walk from the house. Parking is no problem at the house either.
Breakfast was served in the family room and was a lovely continental breakfast with wonderful coffee.
Many thanks to Caroline and Martial and thanks so much for advising us to try the local cheeses. I thought the Ecume de Wimereux was outstanding and I cannot wait to return to buy some more and refill our larder at home !! Looking forward to returning to enjoy more of your hospitality and to try the other recommended restaurants.

We spent two night here and have to say that the owners, Caroline and Martial, were lovely and very helpful. Unfortunately our stay was spolit a little by the appalling weather (see my review of La Chatillon) and a total soaking, but that was hardly anyone's fault! Our room was beautifully decorated but a little small, but neverthe less very comfortable. This is not so much a B&B as someone's home in which one is a honoured guest, with the hosts joining us for breakfast and happy to make bookings on our behalf. While that level of intimacy may not appeal to everyone we thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend this place.

This was the first B&B we stayed at on our 9 night trip through Normandy and Brittany. What a place to start. We were greeted by Caroline and Martial who made us feel so welcome.
The room was very clean and comfortable. Caroline showed us around the other rooms and I would not hesitate to recommend any of them.
Breakfast was excellent and fun, sharing the table with other guests and also the hosts.
We certainly will be returning to La Bononia next year.
Thank you
Elaine and Ken

A real Bed & Breakfast is where you share the family home. La Bononia is one of these.
Spacious and contemporary in presentation is the best way to describe this property.
There has been a lot of attention to detail in the room we were allocated which mad eus feel immediately at home.
We could not have asked for a warmer welcome and the advice from Martial regarding exploring the old town and where to eat helped us make the best use of the time we had available.
This B & B has a character of its own and is expertly run by a dedicated husband and wife team.
If Boulogne sur Mer is your destination the try this modestly price property.

Just returned from 4 nights at La Bononia excellent Bed and Breakfast excellent hosts.
Premises spotless and rooms very large and have all been recently refurbished.

Very close to the old town. Caroline and Martial very helpful and always trying to be informative on places to visit and restauarants supplying good food. On our last morning offered to pack up the rolls left so that we had food for our journey back to UK.

Only 15 minutes from Eurotunnel.

Will definitely be visiting again in the spring.

We stayed here for one night on 25th May 2012. We arrived later than expected at almost 22:00 and were greeted warmly by the whole family and shown our rooms. Martial asked if we'd eaten (we hadn't) and informed us that most restaurants would be closed already. He kindly called up a friend in the town who stayed open especially for us. This was just one of the little touches that make this B&B so special.

The rooms are clean, modern and comfortable - we couldn't fault it.

Breakfast the next day was classic French and was excuted superbly. We chatted to Martial for probably 30 mins over breakfast, which made us feel (even) more at home. He's an incredibly warm, friendly, open, genuine man (to name a few superlatives!) and their family's philisophy on life and the B&B is spot on in my opinion.

The location is really good too just 5 mins to the centre of the town, which is lovely too.

The only negative I can say about La Bononia is that we were disapointed we only had the opportunity to stay one night. When we next go over to stock up on wine we'll definitely go back.

Conveniently 500m walk from the old town which is lovely, Caroline and Martial were very professional and friendly and very keen to ensure everything was just right. Helpful advice was given about where to eat in the evening. We had a family room for 4 which included a table for 4 and a fridge. The room was spacious and very modern and bright with an excellent shower cubicle. This was a stop over stay before returning on the eurotunnel to England and made the last leg of our holiday comfortbale and stress free. Many thanks.
