“The best in Brive La Gaillarde”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2013

Likely as close to a flawless 3-star hotel...beyond expectations for Brive. Walking distance from the old center of the ville. If you're lucky enough to be there on Saturday morning, the best farmer's market (10 acres of tables?) awaits you. Local foods, prepared or for packing is simply great. The hotel has a very nice buffet breakfast, clean quiet and sizeable rooms (if your used to so-called *** chain hotel rooms in France. Spotless and comfortable showers, large firm beds assures of good sleep. Warm rooms. Heated towels. Nice weekend rates too.

Room Tip: A very quiet room.

Stayed here with colleagues attending a fundraising event at Brive Rugby Club. Great modern hotel a few minutes walk from the historical part of Brive. The hotel overlooks the open air market and is a few steps away from the river.

Rooms are bright and modern, good size and plenty of plug sockets. Some have already commented on the size of the toilet space, and it is true that a little extra thought would have prevented the lavatory being a contortion trick for anyone over 5ft 5inches or of large build. Breakfast is basic but good and the bright modern self serve breakfast room is a pleasant place to start the day.

My only criticism is that the hotel seemed to close on Sunday (this may have been a one off) so we had no where to leave our bags before a late flight out of Brive airport, the staff were helpful and gave us as late a check out as possible but it meant catching a taxi to The airport 4 hours before our flight and there isn't much to do at Brive airport, it is tiny.

Were I to visit Brive again would certainly opt for this hotel, its friendly staff and modern ambiance is a great advert for the hotel. Tres bien.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the market square.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

Hello again Folks,

Please find our fair and independent review of Hotel Le Quercy, Brive.
If you find the review of some help, please take the time to press the helpful button at the end. Thanks.

We arrived on Thursday 5th July, 2012 and found the hotel relatively easy. We checked in at reception and as advised, parked our car in the local large car park opposite the hotel. The Gent on reception said that the overnight fee would be around 3.30 euros.

First impressions of the hotel were good. Pretty modern, clean, tidy and well located to explore Brive. It is in the bottom part of town, the old town area. The other end from the train station where hotel Terminus / Le France are situated.

For my money this is the better end of town for shopping and dining and the place to be !

We were allocated room 169 at a fee of 97 euros. The parking however turned out to be 10 euros. We did notice that the exit barriers of the car park were upright until 7.00a.m the following morning, but sadly in place when we left.

The room was modern and clean and the bed very comfy. The a/c worked well, but there was no tea / coffee making facilities, or bath. Just a shower.

Locally two small beers were around 5 euros and there was a limited amount of bars and restaurants. But enough to get you by for a night or two.

If you turn left out of the hotel, about 100 yards up the road is a restaurant called the Ice Garden. It was very busy and popular with the locals. We dined there and enjoyed two good meals which averaged around 12.50 euros per main.

The restaurant was good for steaks, salads and burgers.

Brive is a quaint beautiful town and we found it relaxing and happy and a nice place to spend the night.

Just a word of warning about the toll roads this year. All manned stations appear to be removed due to austerity measures I presume, so clients now have to pay by cash into a machine or swipe credit cards. Queues for the cash tolls were lengthy and long. I strongly recommend that you use your credit cards for all road tolls, especially during the children’s holiday period.

Thanks
Gary.

This hotel has been completely refurbished in a modern fresh style. Rooms are spacious and attractive with some quirky features. Television was of a good size and had two UK channels. Air conditioning is provided. Reception was helpful and the pricing seemed fair in relation to what was provided. Parking is available within 50 metres. Only complaint was that the toilet was installed fairly close to the facing wall which may present a problem if you are over 5'11". No restaurant facilities and breakfast was typical continental.

Room Tip: Overlooking the square adds interest

This hotel has been refurbished with very good quality fittings but somewhat garish decor in some rooms. They had a major problem with their electronic systems when we visited- the electronic card keys did not work, and it was the second day before the problem was resolved - only to recur on the fourth day. Some of our group were trapped for a short time in the lift. The hotel is very well located by the central square in Brive. The staff are friendly and reception manned 24hrs. The hotel has no restaurant but uses La Truffe Noir rerstaurant about 50 metres away- this restaurant was absolutely superb, thoroughly deserving its two star rating, but wine prices here are comparatively high. Brive is a very good touring centre for the Dordogne.

Room Tip: Room at front of hotel face the main square, and if there are events in the square they can be noisy...
