This terrific fort and village offers travelers a chance to explore a time centuries ago without crowds and for a very small admission. When I've visited (previously in summer, this time in March), there have never been crowds. Indeed, on this latest visit, there was just one other party in visiting the grounds at the same time -- on a sunny, clear, warm early spring day.
While it is fun for singles, couples and groups of friends, this site would make for an absolutely glorious day with the kids, walking the ramparts, imaginations taking flight from high on the towers! There are terrific views of the rest of Villeneuve, including the Philipe le Bel tower and Chartreuse Abbey. Views across the Rhone to Avignon are also gorgeous. Bring a picnic lunch, and enjoy.
Remember that your Avignon Passion card (free here, at the TI, and at other area attractions) is good for a discount here in Villeneuve lez Avignon. This card offers up to 5 people discounts for up to 15 days throughout Avignon and Villeneuve lez Avignon.
