“beautiful wedding setting, fab food!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2013

as soon as the doors opened out to a beautiful garden my husband and i knew as soon as we saw it with the view of the beach and the church that it would make the most beautiful setting for a wedding with marquee. Lorna and family were very welcoming highly professional and fantastic caterers and the whole family stayed the weekend. thank you for making our dream of getting married over looking the beach since we were kids a reality! def recommend for that relaxed beautiful wedding feel as well as good food in restraunt.

The view is spectacular, the gardens breathtaking and on a sunny day, what a fabulous place to be.

The room we stayed in however was tired, with not enough sockets, we had to unplug the single lamp just to plug in a phone charger and then take it out again to use the hair drier.

There are no irons provided in the individual rooms, which I would expect in a 4 star hotel.

It was dusty, the tiles in the bathroom were grimy and the shower was run from a mixer tap that had no "Hot" or "Cold" buttons on it, so it was a case of running each tap through until you worked out which was the hot and which was the cold...I gave up and had a bath.

There was a TV in the room, but it was the smallest I've seen. We didn't turn it on.

The bed was uncomfortable, and it was blankets and sheets that were scratchy. Probably a traditional blanket and some would like it, but we were freezing. The rest of the house was warm, but our room was chilly, despite the radiator being on to level 5, it didn't seem to be kicking any heat out.

Our evening meal was amazing. I would recommend the food here. It was excellent and the rest of the hotel seemed quite clean, so maybe our room was a bit of a blip, but I was not impressed for the money.

A lovely small hotel, in a sheltered valley leading to the sea, not far from Tenby. Great food, very accommodating of the kids, a family room close enough to the lounge area that the child monitor reached. Decor a little tired, but all part of the ambience of an old house by the sea.

My wife and myself stayed for 3 nights as my friend held his wedding reception there. The first impression was not so good as the building looked old and run down but we got a very warm welcome. All of the staff were polite, cheerful and very helpful. Our room was in the main building (the rooms in the coach house are larger) and the shower was electric and worked perfectly. Everything was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable.
If you are looking for shiny (some would say tacky) and modern rooms, fixtures/fittings etc, this place is not for you.
The main benefit, apart from the staff, was the food. It was of a very high standard for every meal on each day - I could not praise it highly enough. We found that the wonderful owners and staff and the fabulous food more than made up for the old accomodation.
As we were attending a wedding, we did not see too much of the local area., The wedding ceremony was held in Manorbier Castle which is only a 2 minute walk and is very nice. There is a wonderful tea room in the village (don't be put off by the exterior which looks like a tacky seaside souvenir shop), and a decent pub as well. Manorbier is also very close to Pembroke (which has a very interesting castle - get the guided tour) and Tenby. There is a nice beach here, but there is also a lovely little beach in Manorbier which is a very short walk from the hotel.
Overall we had a lovely time, and would certainly hope to return in the future.

I don't want to be overly critical but the hotel does have a four star rating... On the plus side the service was friendly and helpful, the food was excellent (would go here for a meal again), the bed comfortable and the view stunning. The interior of the hotel was a little bit shabby (not in a chique way). The shower was a over-the-tub drizzle and there were not enough sockets to charge 2 mobile phones. Had it been a three star hotel with a price to reflect we would stay again.

Took a last minute 3 night mini-break late August 2012. Knew where the hotel was from past holidays and decided to book. If you want a hotel with modern decor this is not for you, old fashioned but quaint loads of 'antique road show' items on display takes you back years. Staff very friendly and efficient. Food is of top restaurant standard with great choices, each day different menu. Can highly recommend staying and is dog friendly too.

We received a good deal for the time of year on laterooms.com (£100 pn b&b for 2 adults and 2 kids). We travelled two adults one 12yr old and one 5 yr old. We were warmly greeted on arrival, and there is parking on site.

The room was ensuite and large enough with a double a single and a sofa bed. The room had tea/coffee making facilities, plenty of storage, radio alarm and a small flat screen tv. It had passed its best to be fair - its decor was a little tired and shabby but it was functional and clean and we spent very little time in the room so we weren't that bothered -it suited our needs as a base. The bathroom had a shower attachment to the bath but no shower curtain or screen, so we couldn't really use it as a shower without flooding the floor, but plenty of clean towels and toiletries provided.

The location is perfect...Castlemead itself is right next to Manorbier castle - and some rooms, including the dining area have beautiful views over the gorgeous garden and to the beach beyond. The beach is a 5 minute walk away and is beautiful. In two days we went to Tenby, Saundersfoot, Dinosaur park, Pembroke all within quick and easy driving distance. Folly Farm and Oakwood are not far either.

The boys played in the lovely walled gardens whilst we finished out morning coffee following a delicious cooked breakfast of local produce (served how you requested). Continental, fresh and preserved fruit, cereal, juices all available and served with a smile. We didn't stay for evening meals but the guest comments were very positive and the menu was tempting.

I think we will all fondly remember this little weekend away (last weekend of august) and I would certainly go back. The boys are already asking!
