I recently chose to stay at this hotel because it was described as dog friendly. They do accept dogs, but they are not provided with any facilities and one gains the impression that the decision to accept dogs is more a financial aspect than a caring one.
The room I was allocated had an extremely small balcony area which felt very enclosed, with a metal table and chairs. The website description of the room was "flower filled terrace" but there was not even a geranium in sight. It was on the shady side of the house, and felt far too dark and damp to sit out on.
The room itself was quite large, but very sparse and unwelcoming. I provided a huge rug for my dog, together with her bed, and was surprised when the owner rushed off to get towels etc to cover the chairs and the sofa. I had explained that my dog is never allowed on the furniture, but was obviously completely disbelieved and was made to feel very uncomfortable. The dog was not welcome in any of the public areas of the hotel, and spent the majority of her stay shut in the bedroom.
The bathroom was adequate, clean but sparse. The bath towels were extremely small and thin, and the complimentary toiletries basic.
The fine walks promised in the website consisted of a steep and rough descent to an almost dry river, and a 150 m walk alongside the river through an overgrown path. The hotel is set on a very busy road, without any form of pavement, and it was impossible to find any further walks around the hotel that did not involve negotiating this busy road.
The breakfast consisted of tea/coffee, a bread basket, three jams (one spoonful of each), a portion of grapes from their vine (bitter) and concentrated orange juice.
There is no restaurant at Mas Trilles, however a cold platter can be ordered (with 24hrs notice) to be served at 7 p.m. (apart from on Wednesday or Saturday), handy if you arrive late or suddenly feel peckish!
All the above would be acceptable if this hotel was priced appropriately. On arrival the owners loudly decried the cost of my previous nights lodgings, Villa Florentine, Lyon, France (room 310 euros) as extortionate, yet the comparison between the two establishments (location, facilities) when compared makes Mas Trilles the more expensive and unwelcoming. The cost of my room at Mas Trilles was €210 euros per night, plus €6 for having the privilege of my dog in my room.
This hotel is run purely with an eye to maximising the most profit available, and not to ensuring its guest get value for money and an enjoyable stay.
To sum up, although the hotel was clean with a large room, I found it grossly overpriced for the area, the facilities available and the general standard. I would not consider staying there again.
