“Stay Away”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2013

Should not be allowed to accept bookings!!!!!! This Hotel should be closed by the Tourist Board. Unable to find anything worth commenting about. The owner ,if he was, did not have our reservation, so sent us away whilst he made the rooms up !!!!! On returning an hour later we were shown to our rooms, the electric then went off !!! We really should have moved on somewhere else. Beds & linen were uncomfortable and we had an experience I would not wish on anyone else. So STAY AWAY from this Hotel.

We arrived in good time and had to beat on the door before it creaked open to be greeted by a thin man who looked at our printed reservation with undisguised confusion. The unpleasant smell emanating from the depths of the gloom should have made us turn on our heels there and then, however having driven from the French Alps with our friends that day we were reluctant to look elsewhere. We chose to give the benefit of doubt as our friends had stayed there five years ago and had been enthusiastically describing it's charms and delightful owners. The thin man said he could have the rooms ready in half an hour. We asked for his two best ones. We went for a drink in the square, agitating about our luggage we'd left in the dank hallway. We returned in fading daylight, relieved to find our bags still there and were taken up creaky stairs as the electricity failed to feigned surprised from the man, along an odorous corridor to be shown the rooms. The 'best' rooms could be described euphemistically as basic except for a flat screen TV on a peeling wall. The bathroom had the look of an abandoned squat, damp patches, peeling paint. There was luke warm water for a shower however but revolting hard worn out hand sized towels. The lack of light masked the full travesty.
After a meal down by the river which we spent agitating about our belongings and the car 'locked' in a barn, we returned, eventually remembered the entry code, fumbled our way up the stairs and spent a most uncomfortable night in beds with disgusting sheets and smelly lumpy sponge pillows.
Morning dawned and we emphatically refused the offer of breakfast.
As we had pre booked believing it to be the original hotel, we had to pay the full price, no discussion about a discount as we just couldn't get out of there quickly enough.
Reflecting as we left, we felt we'd been sucked into a surreal horror movie.
It is hard to understand how it is still 'functioning'. This seedy, filthy establishment should have been closed down by Hotel Inspectors and Health and Safety Officials long before now. Be warned!

My girlfriend and I visited this hotel only a few days ago on a spontaneous city break. The hotel in general was quite dirty with stained walls and dusty carpets yet it did have redeeming features in its architecture . The room that we were given (at a price of 80 euroes) had faulty lights, as well as broken ceiling tiles, evidence of quite serious damp as well as a large leak that had stained the top corner of the room. The wardrobe was disgusting and the communal toilet was without paper or even a toilet seat.
Though the room was quite dirty and dank, it was quite spacious and the bed was actually very comfy. The hotelier himself was very pleasant, though totally incapable of running a hotel, and a little creepy as he would stare quite unnervingly at my girlfriend.

I would definitely recommend NOT visiting this hotel as there must be nicer places in the town. The location of the hotel however is superb. I know that someone will buy this hotel in the next few years and renovate it up into quite possibly the best hotel in the city.

I have been to many hotels in different countriee, but this one is - to say it in a nice way - is different. When we arrived (room reservation 5 months before ), nobody was at the reception. We waited for about 20 minutes. We got the key for a room with three beds, but were told by the person who attended us, that this was probably not our room. When the owner arrived two hours later, he gave us the key of another room, a very POOR room without any electricity. We complained, and still another room was given to us. The room had no towels. We complained and the owner bought later still warm slighly grey towels (of the worse quality you can think of). He wanted to give us only ONE towel. We took another one out of his hands. Later we noticed that there was one lamp over the bedside table had no bulb, the other one was not working. Again to the reception. No substitute bulbs available. The owner went out to buy some.

There was no hot water on the first day, the toilet took 20 minutes (at least) to fill again the tank.

The matress of the bed was ok, the sheets clean, but the day cover with stains.

The announced (free) internet was not working at all, not even in the lobby.

When I stepped out ott the door of the hotel, a big rat was running across my way.

The owner had no clue how to run a hotel, BUT he was extremely nice and polite, always trying to correct things. He spoke French, English and German.

If you want to have an experience, you try the hotel. Otherwise you bettter look for another one.

What of course is in favour of the hotel, is the phantastic location, right in the middle of this wonderful old town.

The price is far too high for the poor quality off the hotel.

The rooms me and my friends were in were filthy: lots of mold in the shower that some bleach would easily remove, dirty sheets, lots of dust on the floors. I saw the proprietor "cleaning" the rooms, which must explain the mess. They should get a cleaning service. There was no soap and the wifi didn't work. Also, the proprietor complained because we checked out 10 minutes late. And note: no parking and no air conditioning. Lonely Planet gave this place a good review, but I don't think they would anymore.

We and another couple stayed in the hotel for one night in the middle of June. The hotel is in an old, stylish building in the city centre. Thus the place is very convenient. You can reach the hotel entrance with a car. There were no inconveniences with the parking at night. We slept well, there were no noises from the outside. The hotel has a warm atmosphere, the owners are lovely people. Rich breakfast.

Stayed for first 2 nights of touring holiday here, becasue it was near Montepllier airport and cheap, and well situated for Agde, Cap d'Agde (resort and golf course). Breakfast was very simple, room a bit basic with luke warm as opposed to piping hot water. But location was very good.
