We've been going to Cap D'Agde for nearly 20 years now, only missed one year but have sometimes been twice! It's much busier than it used to be and consequently it's harder to get accomodation if you leave it to the last minute.
A good beach, some very nice and quite reasonable restaurants and bars, and excellent bakeries and take aways if you don't want to eat out all the time. The local small supermarkets are weel stocked and reasonably priced considering it's a holiday resort.
We particularly like Le Mississippi restaurant at Port Nature, right on the beach, for good food and service. We sat there on evening eating an excellent meal and watched the moon rise over the water, like a huge amber fireball! God's own cabaret, we commented!
The beach is sandy and a couple of miles long at a guess. The area in fron tof the apartment section and the campsite is largely occupied by naturist families; further along there is an "adult" area where the swingers congregate.
We've stayed in several locations in Heliopolis, Helio Village (which are nice little villas and very quiet), Port Ambonne, Port Nature and Port Nature Village.
All the properties there are quite small so consider having something a little larger than the standard 4-person property, These seem to be designed for parent and 2 small kids! We tend now to get a larger apartment or villa. Helio Village is a nice location and the properties we have stayed in have been nicely furnished and extremely comfortable, and no "passing crowds2, just the neighbours, and nice terraces facing the sunshine! We have two teenage children so this sort of property suits us, as we don't get under each other's feet! Our last trip, this year, we couldn't get a villa so we had a fantastic apartment in Port Ambonne Marina, which is a row of 6 large apartments on the opposite side of Port Ambonne from the main apartments. Absolutely superb! Sep. Bedrooms, 2 terraces, a well equipped kitchen and big longe/diner.
We've booked through AGN, Peng, Rene Oltra, Cap Nat, and Ann & David James. Ann & David have stood out as being the best by miles and offer very good properties and friendly service. We book through a couple in the UK who are agents for UK and are very helpful and knowledgeable. It seems much easier than trying to book direct.
We aleays drive because of the kids, but we are looking forward now to hols there, just the two of us, and flying over at a fraction of our usual travelling cost with Ryanair into Beziers, which is only about half-an-hour away.
We now go through Ann & David James on www.capdagde.co.uk. We just telephone their agents Darrel...
